About Me
I've been all over the place the past few years, I guess I find it hard to settle in one spot. I grew up in Sydney and have spent most of my life there, stayed in the Wollongong area for a while, then moved to the U.S., currently close to Austin TX. I've worked as a dental assistant, a classroom music teacher, a research assistant, a school counsellor, a substance abuse counselor (U.S. spelling), and now I'm working as a teacher again with some VERY challenging youth. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up!
I love singing, and dancing Cuban salsa. I had a 7-piece band at one point. I haven't been involved in many music related activities lately but I miss singing and would like to get back into that. I am interested in learning new styles of dance, in particular, swing. I can play a few chords on the ukulele but nothing worth boasting about!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think couchsurfing is a great way to meet new people and travel from a not so touristy perspective.
When there's space at my place, I would be happy to host.
Also, I'm happy to help out in anyway I can while staying with you :-)
Interests
I'm interested in music listening and participation (as mentioned above), the participation would include me dancing or singing as I'm a not-so-great instrumentalist. I did recently buy a ukulele, which is going better than the p-bone I bought, which is basically a plastic trombone that I traumatised my dog with! Don't worry, I won't be taking my p-bone or dog with me anywhere, they are much happier in their new homes.
I love dancing and I'm a pretty good salsa dancer (Cuban street salsa, aka Casino). I'm also interested in learning to dance swing, zydeco, and kizomba.
I love nature, swimming and camping in it, road trips, outdoor festivals... all that good stuff!
I'm also interested in different types of natural therapies... I'm a bit obsessive about taking my supplements!
I would like to learn another language but my attempts haven't been successful as yet. I did learn some Spanish during my travels but forgot most because I had no one to practice with :-(
