About Me

My name is Zoe Tribley. I'm 22 years old and a graduating senior at Florida State University in the United States. I was adopted from China and raised in America. My native language is English, though I'm also proficient in Chinese and at the beginner level in Japanese.

I'm a very easygoing person and really fun to be around. I'm considerate of other people and just wanting to travel to eat food, explore new places, meet new people, and have an overall growing life experience. In five years, I am planning on living out of a renovated van that I built myself, and taking that van to travel and see the world. I am an avid mountain hiker, I love going on long walks and exploring the surrounding nature areas, I love to rockclimb, bicycle, and swim, and when I'm indoors, I love to read, write, listen to music, draw, and sing. My values are in helping those around me, especially those in need, advocating for animal rights, advocating for a more sustainable way of living for the future of our planet, and doing everything I can to always keep learning new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people and explore new ways of travel!

To also open my home to others traveling on a budget as soon as I move somewhere cooler than Florida

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite music: 90s hip hop, Korean rap and pop music, Chinese pop songs, random Anime openings, and Disney songs.

My favorite movie is Interstellar for its complex plot on black holes and astrophysics

Favorite books:
If I'm feeling cutesy and romantic: I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
If I'm feeling dystopian rebellions: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
If I'm feeling philosophical and existential: All the Kings Men by Robert Penn Warren
If I'm feeling sad: Beloved by Toni Morrison
if I'm feeling nostalgic: The Host by Stephenie Meyer

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Zip lined through the mountains on a nice, sunny day in Hawaii

Hiked an eight hour trail through the hoodoos in Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

Peed off the side of a cliff in Utah (I really REALLY had to go)

Rode a dog sled in Alaska

Met amazing people in China and gained about 10 lbs in noodles and buns.

Teach, Learn, Share

Ever traveling in China, but your Mandarin isn't that good?
Just say

Dui bu qi, ni de zhong wen hen zao gao.

Which means that you're sorry, but your Chinese is terrible.

"zao gao" isn't commonly used so native speakers will be like "oh wow! You know your stuff!" while still understanding your situation ^o^

I can teach beginner's Chinese, lessons on English rhetoric and institutionalized patterns of learning and behavior, and how to write a creative short story piece!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a very fun, optimistic, and easy going person! I love to experience new things, new foods, and create laughs with other people! When staying in another's home, I would care for the environment as I would my own home and treat it with respect. If there's anything I can do such as grocery shopping, taking care of plants or pets, or basic cleaning, I would love to do so and without any complaints!
