About Me

Hey! I'm Zoé.
I grew up in Belgium, that tiny country with 7 governments, 3 official languages, more than 2500 different beers and as one of the most famous touristic monuments, a tiny peeing boy.
But then I decided to get on a plane and live on the other side of the planet, and I chose Guadalajara, Mexico.

I live in the best part of the center of Guadalajara with my girlfriend Pau (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/paujarito-cervantes) and our dog Pepina.

I love normal-minded people (I would say open-minded, but the truth is that is doesn't seem so "open" to me, in 2016, to be cool about normal stuff like gay marriage and mixed couples and that girl who used to be a boy but has a beard now).

I don't really like the word "tolerance" nor "acceptance" because it means that what you're "tolerating" is supposedly a bad thing in the first place.

I am veeery grateful for all the women who existed before me and worked hard to make or society more women-inclusive, who fought for our rights and needs. I feel there is still a lot to do and I try to do my share when presented with the opportunity.

I suck at cooking, but I'm very good at eating. Especially meals from foreign countries cooked by couchsurfers (wink wink)

I'm a design lover & logo digger!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because it's the best social network of all: a real one whose intention is to connect people for real.
Also because I realise that showing your city to someone who doesn't know it is a way to open your eyes and be born again: see the real beauty there is everywhere, even in that building you pass by every morning or that old park you used to play in as a kid. It's all about seeing it again: even when you don't travel, you can find ways to discover new stuff, or rediscover the old. Couchsurfing has helped me a lot with that.

I haven't been able to host a lot of people in the recent years (I used to live in a shared apartment with my mother and brother) but my best friend is very active on CS and has hosted a lot of people from all around the world. I've been touring with these people in Brussels, and gone to CS meetings, I've also traveled three times with CS and found it is the best way ever to travel!

Music, Movies, and Books

Tastes change,

but when I packed my bag to go live in Mexico, here are the five books I took with me:
- Mrs Dalloway (Virginia Woolf);
- L'écume des jours (Boris Vian);
- Looking for Alaska (John Green);
- Temps Glaciaires (Fred Vargas);
- La course au Mouton Sauvage (Haruki Murakami)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveled from Lisbon to Brussels, only by hitchhiking, passing by a Hippie bay on the South Coast of Spain.
During this same trip, camped on a calm beach, crystal-clear water and full moon light.

Teach, Learn, Share

There are plenty of things I would love to teach you if you wish:
- French, or some basic Spanish
- A bit of lettering, calligraphy
- History of Belgium and why do we have 7 governments?
(veeery useful information)
- How to master the art of being cynical and joking all the time without people understanding it's a JOKE
- Differences between any beer in the world and THE Belgian beer
- A few constellations
- Scouts tricks
- some tricks with our border collie, Pepina!
- ...

And I'd love to learn anything you feel you can teach me!

What I Can Share with Hosts

A niiice couch (2p), in a super nice apartment, in the coolest neighbourhood of Guadalajara (col. Americana). We can go mezcal-tasting, or stay home and play Nintendo 64, or go swim by night in hot volcanic waters.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Cuba, England, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Sweden
