About Me

Hey folks,
born in a german-french family, I grew up in the beautiful Black-Forest-City Freiburg that is near the Dreiländereck - where Germany, France and Switzerland meet.
Since I was a child, I always wanted to know more about animals, our nature and the environment - so it's not a coincidence that I made an apprenticeship as zookeeper and finding me later on university of sustainable development.
Today I do different things: I work in health-care, do craftswork and rent handmade outdoor stuff for weddings, gardenparties (www.atelier-barbot.com) or make the decoration with my stuff.
My parents have always travelled a lot, and still do it today. No question that me and my siblings took over this important family-tradition ;-)
There is so much to discover, to experience and to enjoy, that I honour the time that is given to me, by staying curious about the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Is there any better way of meeting open-minded people to have a great exchange, to discover new countries, cultures, languages, food and customs than via CS? In my opinion, only by meeting on a non-commercial level you can get sure your vis-à-vis is interested in a real exchange :-)

Interests

Whether enjoying outdoor our incredible nature or just going out with friends to have fun - I'm with you! ... What? Bad weather? I don't care: even at home there are millions of ways enjoying life! I don't know the word boring - life is much to interesting to have time for that :-)
Oh - and never start a conversation with me about sustainable lifestyle, the worldwide social and the enviromental effects of consumption-societies and captialistic economy - it wouldn't find an end ;-)

Music, Movies, and Books

The music I like to liste, depends mainly on my mood and can be quite variable :-)
Very often, the songs I'm really emotioanally touched, are related to a memory (a moment, a person, a journey, a feeling). That's why my music collection is one of my most precious treasures I have. And I love sharing this treasure :-)

I'm much interessted in movies and books that are made or set in other countries and culture. In daily grind, when travelling is not possible, it's the way of making a journey just by using my imagination or feeding my desrire to further discover the world ^^

Books I loved: Kalevala (Lönnrot), Nathan the Wise (Lessing), Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare), Hunchback of Notre Dame (Hugo), Les Misérables (Hugo), Krabat (Preußler), Perfume (Süskind), Narcissus and Goldmund (Hesse), Siddartha (Hesse), The Count of Monte Cristo (Dumas), Tristan (Gottfried of Straßburg), The little prince (Saint Exupéry) , Harry Potter (Rowling), The Hobbit (Tolkien), Journey to the Center of the Earth (Verne), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (Verne), Around the World in Eighty Days (Verne), The Pickwick Papers (Dickens), Oliver Twist (Dickens), Nicholas Nickleby (Dickens), David Copperfield (Dickens), M. Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran (Schmitt), The Carpet Makers (Eschbach), Jesus Video (Eschbach), Simplicius Simplicissimus (Grimmelshausen), The history of the valorous and wittie Knight-Errant Don-Quixote of the Mancha (Cervantes Saavedra)
Different Poems of Goethe

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking through Spain on the way of Santiago de Compostella (about 750 km).
This journey will remain as my unforgetable way to myself.

PHILOSOPHY
Es muss von Herzen kommen, was auf Herzen wirken soll. | It has to come from the heart, that is intended to touch hearts.
(Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

Ce que tu donnes est à toi pour toujours, ce que tu gardes est perdu à jamais. | What you give is for ever yours, what you keep is forever lost.
(Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt)

Memento mori! (hence) Carpe diem! | Remembe the death! (so) Use the day!
(guiding motif in baroque)

Recipe for a really perfect evening:
Ingredients:
- time
- good weather (warm temperature and great view to observe the stars and the (full) moon)
- gentle people around you
- beautiful nature (for example a forest, mountains or desert)
- campfire
- some music instruments and ambitioned singers
- something to cook over the fire to proof your outdoor skills :-)
- a good red wine, beer or tea
- a sleeping bag to sleep outside

Take all together and mix it very good (not everything is needed to succeed :-)

The less you need to be satisfied, the easier it is to be happy. (at least thats my experience I made in life).
