ABOUT ME

I've recently finished my Social Work degree :) I lived in Oulu, Finland for 3 months where I did my Social Work field placement (2008) and then I traveled in Europe for three and a half weeks. I enjoy meeting new people, learning about different cultures, trying new food, reading great books, dancing, spending time with family/friends and enjoying nature.

PHILOSOPHY

We all have a lot to learn from each other & teach each other. The trouble is people tend to talk much more then they listen. I live my life hoping to learn from others, to better myself as a person. I think people are very rezilant; inner strength,motivation,empathy and the ability to ask for help are key. I want to enjoy life, try new things and meet people from different cultures and backgrounds.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hope to host in the future or at least show couchsurfers around Ottawa if I'm unable to host. I have donated money to Couchsurfing to help keep this amazing community going and I encourage my friends to couchsurf when they travel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted 2 surfers (while living in Finland) one from Belgium & one from Helsinki.Both times that I have hosted I really enjoyed the experience, meeting such different people who have a wealth of travel knowledge and life experiences.I surfed for three and a half weeks around Europe (and a few times in Finland) I had nothing but positive experiences, all my hosts were great and I hope to return the good Karma.

Interests

I would love to take part in more outdoor/sports related activites.I am eager to try white water rafting and rock climbing.I spend most of my free time with my family and friends, either out together for meals/drinks,staying in together-catching up on the going's on, enjoying parties, dancing, concerts. In my professional life I have primarily worked with youth/chidren with developmental diasabilities & seniors, providing home care.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like music you can dance to & sing along with. Jimmy Eat World & U2
My favorite movie is League of Their Own, I played baseball for 8 years, I love the soundtrack, actors, storyline and overall feel of the movie. I also enjoy Tim Burton. My most recent favorite book is Eat,Love,Pray. I also have fond memories of Bridge to Terabitha.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

An amazing 3 months living in Finland and a wonderful 3 1/2 week trip in Europe! I loved being part of different cultures and meeting lots of different people. Working with children with disabilities is a challenge, but very rewarding.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a patient person, not sure if that skill can be 'taught' but is something that can be improved upon.I try my best to give people the benefit of the doubt. I would like to learn to be more adventurous, perhaps hard to 'learn' but something I think is worth a try!
