Chennai is one of India’s largest cities, and sits on the Bay of Bengal. This city is constantly growing and attracting more industry, but is still firmly rooted in South Indian history and culture. There are so many temples to visit here, detailed and wildly-decorated shrines to the gods of generations of Indian people. Visitors might make the trip to the Kapaleeshwarar Temple in Mylapore to see an amazing array of colors and carvings dedicated to Shiva.
To do some serious street shopping and to sample some of the incredible local food, head to the neighborhood of Sowcarpet in the north of Chennai to browse the wholesale shops and chow down in the small, authentic eateries. When your feet are tired and all you want to do is relax, make your way to Marina Beach, the second largest beach in the world, to stick your toes into the sand and watch the sun dip down into the bay.
