Shanghai is a true metropolis in Eastern China with a distinct skyline full of towers and skyscrapers reaching higher and higher all the time. But that’s not all there is to Shanghai; here you’ll also find tree-lined residential neighborhoods with boutiques and cafes with a local flavor all their own. This city is a great place to take in a traditional performance of a Chinese opera or acrobatic show, then dive into a world-class nightlife scene full of jazz lounges and dance clubs. Visitors favor a walk along the Bund, a waterfront area on the bank of the Huangpu River with an excellent view of the Pudong District’s recognizable skyline.
To get away from the bustling crowds, take a stroll to the Yu Garden to enjoy the goldfish-filled ponds, Chinese pavilions, and rock sculptures here. And for a truly traditional Shanghai experience, make your way to Qibao Old Town, a historic area along the Puhui River with classic Chinese architecture, tea houses, delicious street food, and some great museums for a bit of cultural background.
