About Me

ABOUT ME
Hello there! I’m Barış, a helicopter pilot in the army with a passion for capturing the world through my lens as an amateur photographer. Over the past 13 years, I’ve been fortunate enough to explore more than 20 countries, each one adding a new layer to my understanding of different cultures and ways of life.

Music is a big part of who I am. I’m particularly drawn to jazz, progressive rock, and psychedelic rock. You’ll often find me listening to the smooth sounds of Miles Davis, the intricate compositions of King Crimson, or getting lost in the dreamy landscapes of Pink Floyd. Music is my escape, and I love discovering local music scenes wherever I go.

When it comes to films, European cinema holds a special place in my heart. Directors like Krzysztof Kieslowski, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Ingmar Bergman have profoundly influenced my taste in movies. I’m fascinated by films that delve deep into the human condition, exploring complex emotions and philosophical themes. If you’re into film, I’d love to have a chat about some of these cinematic masterpieces!

I’m a bit of an introvert, so it might take me a little time to open up. But once I do, I’m super friendly, easygoing, and always up for a good conversation. My time in military boarding schools instilled in me a strong sense of discipline and order, so I’m always tidy and respectful of the spaces I share with others. You won’t have to worry about a messy guest—I know how to live well with others.

Traveling for me is all about diving into the local culture, far away from the typical tourist traps. I’m always eager to explore hidden gems, try local foods, and, most importantly, listen to the stories of the people I meet. I believe that every person has a unique story to tell, and I’m genuinely interested in hearing yours.

Whether we’re sharing a meal, exploring your city, or just chatting over a cup of coffee, I’m looking forward to connecting with new friends and making some great memories along the way.

Here is my instagram account if you like to see the photos I’ve taken along the way.

PHILOSOPHY

To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, to find each other, and to feel..

"Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends."
~Maya Angelou

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

The couchsurfing is more about sharing a story for me than providing a free bed to someone I met for the first time or finding just a place to spend the night. It's not so hard and expensive to find an accomodation these days but It's quite rare to find someone that you can share an experience, especially for solo travellers,(doesn't mean that I won't help you if you are seriously in need of assistance and can't find anywhere else to spend the night and won't be able to hang out with me while you stay at my place.. I know how it feels to sleep outside, at train stations or airport )

I offer my couch to anyone who needs to stay in Ankara. Because i work in weekdays, unfortunately i am not able to be at home till 6 pm, but i can be your guide after 6 and whole weekend.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I decided to join couchsurfing after i travelled around Europe for the first time in 2011 and found out about CS from another backpacker. I hosted some travellers , surfed and met with some CS'ers during my travels so far and I'm glad to find such an opportunity to know these people ..
