About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live, love and laugh lots! Play as much as possible and live without regret.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Ontario loving the outdoors. Canoeing was my passion for years. Taught it at a children's camp for a few years while guiding out trips in Northern Ontario. I thought I would always be in Ontario. That was until I went on a road trip across the country. I saw the mountains in Alberta and everything changed! I didn't lose my passion for canoeing or the outdoors or even Northern Ontario, but I developed a few new passions that took over. I got into skiing the white fluffy stuff we refer to as "pow" and in the off season I got a bike for shredding the mountain when the "pow" was gone. I love life out west. It's a much more relaxed mentality and pace of life, and a lot of the people seem to share a very similar philosophy on life and leisure. Work isn't everything. Actually work is just what we do in order to be able to play and enjoy the mountains. Love the mountains and the mountain lifestyle.

PHILOSOPHY

I am not completely sold on this "work" thing we all seem to be completely caught up in. It's not that I am lazy, I don't consider myself lazy at all. It's not that I don't want to work, it's just that I want to play! I want to be able to be free to enjoy the time I have here rather than "work" to make money for things that I don't actually need. We're here for a very short time. It doesn't make sense to me why we all think it's acceptable to work 30-50 hours a week and basically live for the weekends where we have 2 days if you're lucky to pursue what you want to do with your free time. It makes absolutely no sense to me. Since I graduated I have made an effort to "work" 6 months of the year and "play" 6 months of the year. For a few years that meant working all summer to be able to ski all winter. Last year it meant working most of the fall/winter to be able to travel for 6 months. I'm not sure how to make sure this stays as a reality in my life into the future but I am pretty determined to figure it out!

I suppose that's a bit of my life philosophy right now. It's always evolving.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed a bit here and there, but I am working on getting more and more involved as I get further into my wander. I think the CS community is incredibly special and from what I have experienced so far it has brought an amazingly unique group of people together all over the world. It's awesome! I look forward to being able to host when I return to Canada.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I LOVE the CS community! I have met many people through CS over the past year or so and have made some relationships that will last well into the future. It's an incredible way to get a real perspective of a place and what it's like for the locals who live there. I've done tons of surfing so far and am pretty stoked to be able to host people when I finish my long trip around the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently read Shantaram and loved it! Currently reading Life of Pi and a massive Lonely Planet on India. Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, into the wild was incredibly inspiring.

I recently watched "Zeitgest: Moving forward" which I would recommend to anyone. I loved the BBC's "Human Planet" as well as "Animal Planet". Fubar is a pretty awesome movie. Canadian cult classic. Shawshank Redemption certainly goes down as a favourite of mine, but my all time favourite is "into the wild". Althought the book is better!

I enjoy all types of music, right now the most popular on my ipod would be "The lumineers" and "of monsters and men" I love Eddie Vedder and the Hip. Just to name a few.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hitchhiked across Canada a few years ago. It wasn't for lack of $ or lack of vehicle (i had a bit, and a car) but it was to meet as many people as I could and just have that feeling of "wandering". It opened my eyes to so many things and honestly changed me in many ways too. Loved it!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have grown up with building and construction in my family. It's how I make a living and I am always eager to share any sort of building knowledge I can with anyone who is interested.

I am always game for learning new things. I find new languages a challenge but I am keen to pick up what I can along the way. I would really like to learn to juggle.
