Music, Movies, and Books
Books and music are my deepest language of bonding and connection. My Mom is a history professor who was doing her PhD until I was around 5.. so learning how to read and write, and furthering these skills, was the optimal way to be close to her...she would either read or invent a story before I slept, and I would wake up in middle of the night to be cuddled back asleep by the lullaby of her tapping in the computer keyboard. My dad did not live with us, as he was teaching in another city, but would come every weekend. He grew up in the golden peak of radio, so majorly with American rock (Genesis, Queen..
) & Brazilian, Latin American regional songs, specially about revolution (Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Adoriran Barbosa, Mercedes Sosa...) He teached me how to sing and play the guitar. nowadays he is into percussion, as me... from time to time I find new musical styles from the world that get me engaged (I love these periods!!!) like Argentian rock, Colombian salsa, Egyptian rap... Or singers/bands which I put on the whole playlist like Gin Wigmore, Adele, Sharmoofers, Caravan Palace...
I like to feel vibrations, rhythms and sound experimentations.
One of my main interests moving around is to go to cultural bookstores and search for local women writers. I usually search for: authors who have fun experimenting with their voices while writing about something else than romantic love. Some of my favourites: Laura Restrepo, Giocoda Belli, Clarice Lispector, Mariana Enriquez, Virgínia Woolf, Becky Chambers, Ursula Le Guin, Doris Lessing...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Kayaking in Naples, going to the thermal baths in Budapest, falling in love for everything about Turkey, riding a scooter in crowded Marrakesh, taking my drum to the trip to cross Lençois Maranhenses, drinking tea and using olive oil made from fynbos (unique smells and tastes!) in South Africa, go to the nomadic games in Astana, to get to know almost the whole coastal area of Brazil (attentive to sunrises and sunsets)
Teach, Learn, Share
I always have delicious teas and honey in my luggage :)
