Loïc, 36, Swiss/French/Italian, language teacher, on a year off to travel around the world, discover new cultures, sample new food, learn new languages and try out new sports/activities/trades. Basically my goal is to get out of my comfort zone and become a better person day by day.

I want to immerse myself into various cultures. I can do it superficially by doing the sights and visiting several places but meeting the locals and hanging out with them can give me a deeper insight into their culture and it can give me the chance to discover different kinds of people with their lifestyles, unique personalities and backgrounds.

(of course sometimes, it's hard to tell apart what's personal and cultural)

it's not about the destination, it's about the experience, it's about the journey, not about arriving. It's not the goal that truly matters but the whole process, which is the real reward ! Learn to enjoy the ride, make the most of the path, of your trip ! Live in the moment, the present !

Maybe traveling is not so much about the places but about the people. Maybe I've been wrong ! Finding the right balance between doing and being, between planning and letting go, between producing results and going through the required processes.

Engage in positive thinking followed by action to improve life on a daily basis. Always be kind and understanding and try to distance yourself from premature judgement. Strive to be culturally and socially literate and do your little bit to help other people.

Be a social chameleon ! Learn to master the subtle art of adapting to the context the situation ! Because being socially skilled and flexible matters ! Interpersonal intelligence ! Emotional intelligence !
