About Me

ABOUT ME

My name is Vinícius Dalla Corte, I'm 24 years old and I'm a Brazilian student of Mechanical Engineering at URI, located in southern Brazil. I had the chance to participate in the Brazilian programme Science Without Borders to study in the University of Birmingham for a period of a year starting in September.
Since childhood I have had a great interest in becoming an engineer. This interest came through my father who is also a mechanical engineer and has worked in a metalworking manufacturer of bus bodies for 28 years. Gradually I could better understand the profession, admiring its possibilities and its great processing power and I realized that these were activities that I would like to develop throughout my life. Also because my father was responsible for the export sector in which the company operates, I have always had contact with other cultures which gave me a great desire to know places, to travel and to live new experiences.
With this idea of knowing new places, in 2007 I had the opportunity to study English in the city of Oxford, in England. I was welcomed by an English host family and I still keep in touch with them. During the time I spent in Oxford, I had an unforgettable experience which helped me to learn about different things, such as dealing with the distance from family and friends and making me more responsible. So I created a great affection for England and since my returning to Brazil I have always dreamed of going back to learn even more about the culture and the English customs.
At age 21, I got involved in a backpacking trip with four friends to Europe and Asia. With little money, we stayed in cheap accommodation, and along the way we knew many places, sometimes we had to exhaustively walk for hours with the backpacks on our shoulders, but we never gave up and we always managed to reach the destination. This adventure has broadened my perspective of life and I could learn learned practically to appreciate the small things and to overcome the difficult moments. When we were lost, we always found someone willing to help us with a smile. This example I take with me today and whenever I can I try to help other people with the same attitude.
