Über mich

Left ones for a month traveling with a friend and got infected with the travel virus. Went on my first solo trip for a month a year later. Did listen to all these hard core travel stories from long term travelers and got so excited that I wanted to see and experience those things for my self. So I quit my job 6.5 years ago to travel around the world for one year by myself, met my Australian boyfriend in week one and we have been traveling and working around the world together ever since :)

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

In hostels and hotels you don't meet the local people. I like couch surfing to meet the local people from the country I'm traveling in, learn about there culture, share stories and meals and see how they live there life. We recently also stayed with people who moved to a different country and that was also very interesting to see that country through they eyes of a foreign person living in that country.

I have couch surfed together with my boyfriend in Iran (2x), ones in England ones in Copenhagen and ones in São Paulo. All references on his profile: Reece Vandermeyden.

We are traveling together for over 7 years, but only couchsurfed a few times. It mostly easier to stay in hostels or hotels, cause with couchsurfing you have to be very organised and know exactly when you arrive etc. We don't like hosts waiting for us. And we often change our mind staying somewhere shorter or longer then planned, so couchsurfing is for us not always handy, cause it can make your plans a bit limited. So we so far only couchsurfed when we exactly knew when we would be somewhere and only when we found people we were really interested in to spend time with. For us, that's the main thing why we couchsurf. To meet people and spend time with them :)

When we live somewhere permanently, we will be very happy to have guest stay at our place. Where ever that might be.

Interessen

I love being outdoors, camping and hiking. Our 18 month trip in a Toyota Landcruiser around Australia was just amazing. So much freedom and amazing things to see! During this 18 months I did about 9 months of different seasonal work, picking on an citrus farm and strawberry farmand I worked in the grainharvest and in a winery. Nice to do something completely different than I used to at home.

I love wandering in big cities too. Eating street food, specially in Asia. I'm not a person going out for meals in proper restaurants, cause I'm working in a restaurant, don't want to spent my free time in a restaurant too. I like cooking :)

I love the mountains, for skiing, hiking and just because we don't have them at 'home'. I have been working in Switzerland for the last 3 winter seasons and love to ski now. I've been to Nepal two times for hiking in the Himalayas (Annapurna circuit, Langtang Valley and Everest region) and seen Everest from 'the other side' in amazing Tibet. Every country we go to we will hike a lot (some great countries for hiking: Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Australia, Switzerland)

I love to spot new animals in the wild!We seen many amazing animals in Africa on the many game drives and walks we did, the big 5 are amazing, but the wild dogs we saw even made the guides got totally excited and for the Hippos they are absolutely afraid! The mountain gorillas in Uganda didn't do much, because they just had a baby, but still very impressive to see. Never seen so many beautiful coloured birds as in Central America. Great to see some of the endangered Orang Utangs in Borneo and tigers in India and Nepal, swimming with whale sharks and massive turtles in the Philippines, seeing a manatee and pretty big sharks in Belize, but whales are still one of my favourites, seeing them jump out of the water while camping at the cliffs in North West Australia, but specially the amazing day I had snorkeling with them in the waters of Tonga. 10 humpback whales we counted at the same time! And a mum and baby swimming under us, it just makes you feel like your only this tinytiny creature in a very big interesting world!

I played tennis and coached tennis when I lived at home, but haven't played much since I'm traveling. Still follow all the big tournaments, been to Roland Garros and the Australian Open and visited the Wimbledon and Flushing meadows out of tournament.

I also like cooking and specially eating! I love trying out new food and specially love street food in Asia. I love my relaxing days, watch a movie with tea and chocolate and just let the day past by :)

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I love travel programs, documentaries, feel good movies, sportprogramms and any music with good lyrics and a nice tune.
Not the biggest reader, but my favourite books are the Dan Brown ones and from Khaled Hosseini. Also love those movies. I like reading biographies from tennisers too and travel books and travel magazines.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

To many too write done here :)
* Travelled for 7 months on an overlandtruck (bush)camping from Morocco via Cape Town to Nairobi. Spent lost of time wildlife spotting on safari in the amazing national parks in East Africa (Ngorogoro Crater, Serengeti, Etosha, Maasai-Mara, Okovanga Delta etc.) Seen the big-5 multiple times, wild dogs in Okovanga Delta, Botswana and mountain gorillas in Uganda.
* Snorkelling with humpback whales in Tonga, best ever!
* Seen a wild tiger while walking in a National Park in Nepal at about 20m from us, best ever 2!
