About Me
ABOUT ME
My name is Fireke (yes it is a weird and terribly difficult name even in my own country, my dad made it up in one of his dreams) and i'm 20 years old. Ever since i went to London during high school for six weeks doing an exchange, at the age of 16, i've been addicted to traveling en meeting people. Every summer i travel as much a possible (even during uni i try to get away as much as possible) and i think by know i can say i've seen quite a lot of Europe, including the eastern part. I study Liberal Arts and Sciences (again a very difficult name, i'm sorry) with a major in cultural anthropology. I love learning about other cultures and daily lifes and thoughts of people who grew up somewhere else.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm couchsurfing because it's exactly what i'm looking for when i'm traveling; meeting other (local) people, sharing thoughts and sharing experiences. And of course for me - as a cultural anthropologist - seeing they way other people live is simply very interesting :)
Interests
Traveling (of course), meeting people, getting to know different cultures and countries. I also like being outside, sailing, cooking (and eating), music (i play the piano), art, going for a drink and discussing life philosophies and just enjoying everything life has to offer.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like a lot of music, from singer song writer to jazz to blues, so i won't name everything here.
Movies i loved are 'Les Choristes', 'Intouchables', The 'before sunrise, before sunset, before midnight' trilogy, and i general a lot of art house movies.
Also with books i don't have outstandig favorites but a lot i liked, but a few writers i love are Toon Tellegen, Artur Japin and Kadar Abdolah (all Dutch) and Khaled Hosseini.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiking through Sweden with no place to sleep and no tents (just a sleeping bag and matress), finding people who we just asked for some water willing to host us in their beautiful wooden cottage next to a lake, with our own private sauna. We were really tired from walking all day and what could have been a better reward then having our own wooden sauna, with a very clean lake next to it. So we went into the sauno, took a dip in the lake, went back into the sauna, took a dip in the lake, and continued till it got dark.
Teach, Learn, Share
One of the best and simple things someone told me when i was a teenager and that always stayed with me was from a polish handyman. We sometimes had small conversation when he was having a break and drinking coffee and i was making my homework, and during one of the little chats we talked about school. I asked him about his school and he replied: "My school is the school of life."
