About Me
Hi,
my name is David Marco Antonio -those are just my first names, wait, I have more- Suárez Caspar. I am the son of a German mom and a Peruvian father (that explains the many names situation).
I grew up in Frankfurt, Germany. From a very young age I took frequent trips to my other home that is Peru. Because of those early visits to Peru I developed an interest in finding out more about other cultures. Since Peru and Germany were quite different, to say the least! One has lamas, the other one makes cars. One has a lot of fun dancing at a party, the other one will not dance, ever. Ok, that might be exaggerated, but you get the point - people are different and that excites me!
In my teens I started doing music and that + my interest in cultures drew me into learning languages. It is a hobby of mine that I am practicing daily and hopefully will do for the rest of my life!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My ideal Couchsurfing experience would be to meet a kind soul that is happy to share some stories about the place they live in while enjoying some delicious local food together. I would like to know more about you and the place you call your home.
Interests
I like to move, with or without music. I love singing and playing my guitar.
A few years ago, I picked up a camera and started doing videos and taking photos. It has since become one of my favourite things to do!
- photography
- dancing
- music
- rock climbing
- languages
- good food
- musicology
Music, Movies, and Books
🎵I am currently doing a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and Documentary Filmmaking. My previous major was musicology, so listening to all kinds of music is my duty and great pleasure! My guilty pleasure nowadays are The Cavemen, a Nigerian band doing Highlife Fusion - check them out. Recently I have been listening to a lot of music from West Africa. My bachelor music was about Chinese Hip-Hop.
🎬 Inception, Memento, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Grand Budapest Hotel, In the Mood for Love.
Anything Hayao Miyazaki produced makes me cry. In a good way.
📚 I like reading science-related books and occasionally philosophy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once climbed up 5000m high to see Vicuñas (a more delicate version of a lama) in the Peruvian Andes. At the end I didn't see a single one, but got myself hurt instead stepping on a cactus and almost freezing to death - worth the view though!
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm not the greatest musician, but I like sharing a song or two with you. :)
Also, I spent a lot of time studying music in university, so if you have any questions about music theory, history or other related stuff I am happy to share.
After my A-levels I really got into language learning. To this day I speak 5 pretty well and others I basically forgot. BUT I can show you how to learn a language effectively and point you to awesome resources for your language learning endeavour.
Albeit on the heavy side, I can offer you perspectives on European asylum policy and the European border regime. As someone who owns arguably the mightiest passports, I started questioning the logics and privileges this piece of paper offers to me.
I am getting more and more into video and photography. If you are also interested, we can share some knowledge, info or ideas.
Most importantly I would like to share a good time with you. I am more a harmonious, easy going type of person, who easily gets along with people.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Any insight I have on music, how to learn languages and my culture. It's all yours.
I can teach you some photography and videography basics.
Hopefully we can share some great moments together!
