About Me

Outgoing and looking to make new memories

My name is Miriam and I am an outgoing Dutch student who loves to travel to new places. I live in Leiden to study for my Medicine degree. I joined a sorority and I am making the most of my time here in Leiden.

But I also like to seek the adventure in traveling abroad! It's my plan to travel around South-America for 4 to 6 months.
'The world is a book, and those who don't travel only read one page.'

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really want to go travel through South-America one day. My flatmate and good friend Suzanne van Wijk had a great experience with couchsurfing over there so I want to give a try as well.

Before letting myself loose across the ocean, Europe seems a great place to start making Couchsurfing memories and try it out. So here I am.

Interests

(Wind)surfing stil learning though, reading, exploring the beautiful world around us, all types of yoga but especially Bikram, cooking and learning about food, cycling, dancing (all kinds of dancing, but in spain I started to learn salsa, and loved it), camping, children ( I want to be an pedeatrician)

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is Into the Wild, or Avatar, I can't choose between the two. The first propably has the better story to tell, the last has the most amazing world created by the fantasy and creativity of people. I love them both.

The books by Carlos Ruiz Zafon about the Cemetery of Forgotten Books are very intriging to me. It's hard to pick a favorite. I also loved 'in Lucia's eyes'. Here are some quotes to see why: "Much of what initially exists only in the imagination becomes reality." "If there's one thing i can do it's to love. It doesn't seem much, but i am proud of it." “That's the only thing that matters, honey, for someone to see more in you than you thought there was to see.”

Music is very important to me. It really helps me get in the mood to do anything. I like the Beatles or Paulo Conthe to brighten up my day. When I want to concentrate i listen to Chilly Gonzales or Yann Tiersen. But when I want to party I will put on some very wrong 90's dance music or Miley Cyrus.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- I Went skydiving in Prague.
- In Spain me and my two friend decided to get in a car with a drunk guy who told us we'd go to some supposedly awesome club. AND we survived. Alle three of us. And we went to quite an impressive club. So that was quite unbelievable.
- I once jumped on stage of a big concert and ripped my jeans, on front of a lót of people.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've been a swimming instructor for 5 years, so if you can't swim or wanna learn some new styles, i can teach you;)
Also i've been tutoring kids with learning problems for years, so if you have ADHD and need some help with your math homework, i'm there for you!
And on a maybe more usefull note; I really love to cook. I try to cook a lot of things and learning new dishes from other cultures. Or get inspired and make my own new recipes. Always with the motto: More is more.
Also I love to go to food markets everywhere and just look and try everything!
