About Me

CURRENT MISSION

We are counting down the years, months and days to retirement. Looking forward to travelling and racking up some fun experiences. We enjoy learning about new cultures, music, food and history.

ABOUT ME

We love being outdoors! Boating, kayaking, biking, long-distance hiking and geocaching to name a few interests. We raised 4 sons and are about to become empty-nesters. Tom & I like to spend our spare time camp-hosting at DuPuis Wildlife Management Area in Martin County, FL. This is a popular mecca for outdoorsy travelers in the winter months. Most of our campers are from Canada, Europe and places in the U.S. that are too cold in winter. We enjoy meeting new people and showing them fun things to do. We are 2 hours from Orlando, about 2 hours from the northern end of the Florida Keys. Palm Beach International Airport is about 45 minutes from our home.

PHILOSOPHY

Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are trying to learn more about CS'ing and have space for adventurous travelers. We have a pop-up camper, and RV that is on 22,000 acres (this is our home for a portion of the year in DuPuis). We have tents, sleeping bags and hiking equipment (trekking poles, backpacks). We have one son still at home and ready to leave for college in Jan. 2014. After that, we will probably have a private room and bathroom. At the moment, we would only have room on our couches.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We did experience meeting a couch surfer from the Netherlands visiting friends of ours a year ago. That is what reminded us to check out CS'ing and give it a try. We advised him to try camping on Dry Tortugas, Fort Jefferson in the Florida Keys and he did..he emailed us and thanked us profusely and said it was the highlight of his adventure whilst in the United States.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Forrest Gump, Dances With Wolves, The Way.
Books: Into the Wild, Les Miserables, A Walk in the Woods, Confederacy of Dunces.
Music: The Beatles, REM, Cat Stevens, Tom Petty

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Camped out on Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas NP. This is an island roughly 70 miles off the Florida Keys in the middle of nowhere. Traveled the high seas with the United States Navy. Hiked the Grand Canyon and over 700 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Also as part of a self-discovery mission, hiked from Miami to Key West. Geocached in the high desert outside Las Vegas on the Extra-Terrestrial Highway near Area 51. Been to Bethlehem, Jerusalem and the Great Pyramids.

Teach, Learn, Share

We like learning about nature, music and art. Shari recently acquired her Florida Master Naturalist certification. Tom is a musician, drummer and baseball coach with a wide knowledge of useless information. We both like to help others learn about our beautiful state and all the quirky and off-beat things there are to do here.
