About Me
ABOUT ME
I love travelling the world. And the thing I love most about travelling is meeting people. A number of times I have travelled to places overseas and seen absolutely no tourist attractions, but simply enjoyed meeting locals and fellow travellers.
I love meeting interesting people and discussing their philosophy on life. Some of the amazing people I've had the privilege of meeting include:
people in two Kanak tribes I stayed in in New Caledonia, learning about their integration of traditional and modern life;
farmers in Myanmar who I met while riding my bike round town, who had little English, and I only a little Burmese, but who gave me water and bade me sit down and showed me their pictures of Aun San Suu Kyi;
French Southerners who partied away the summer with me and brought me out of my shell;
Gilbert, a coconut vendor in Noumea who seemed to know everyone in town because he was so friendly and happily invited me into his home to stay;
Celine, my long time friend who I met in Australia and recently visited again in Belgium, where we spent many hours playing with her beautiful daughter Eleonore;
many fantastic fellow travellers in the youth hostels of Malaysia and New Caledonia;
beautiful children in the orphanages and villages of Cambodia who played and read with us and made us feel very welcome;
some wonderful, helpful people in Japan, especially one very helpful gentleman I recall who abandoned his plans for the day to make sure we got to where we wanted to go and then showed us a number of interesting places and things to try.
I believe it's always important to try and learn at least a little of the language when you travel somewhere, and have always found people are much more open to you when you make this effort. I cannot remember any of my Burmese or Vietnamese or Cambodian now, but I was proud of my efforts and it opened doors for me that I was joyous to walk through.
I miss my home town of Canberra, but these days love my new home of Brisbane. Maybe one day I will get to live some time in France or New Caledonia.
I love French culture and am currently missing it like crazy. I would love to meet some French people and have some French conversation.
PHILOSOPHY
We're here only a short, limited time, make the most of every moment.
On n'est pas la pour longtemps, alors profitez de chaque moment.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Have always loved meeting new people in foreign countries. Thought this would be a good place to meet more random people and exchange culture. I guess I have couchsurfed many times without the use of this website - meeting randoms and ending up on their couches, but have only gone through the website once, and had a great time with a Parisian called Nabih. I have been to a few really fun couchsurfing events too in France and Malaysia.

Music, Movies, and Books
Wide variety of everything. I love singing, used to sing jazz in a restaurant and various other genres elsewhere. I love reading and writing. I am currently trying to write some children's books, going through many drafts. The best books I've read recently were Allan Cumming's memoir Not My Father's Son and The House of Silk - a Sherlock Holmes novel. Also absolutely in love with Kate Grenville's books esp the Lieutenant and Secret River.
Beaucoup.
