ABOUT ME

I am a Graphic Design and Illustration student based in Belfast. Enjoy cooking, reading, lots of different music, being creative. I have 3 timetabled class days so the other days and evenings may be free (depending on my work schedule, but please ask). Love meeting new people and learning new things from them and letting them inspire me.

I am a vegetarian since birth. I don't cook meat and don't like people eating meat in my home. Not vegan, but can cater for vegans.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am not really able to host people at this moment as I have a visitor who will be here all summer. Probably I will begin hosting again in September, so if you have a trip planned for September or beyond you can message me.

After my time of hosting I have met some really beautiful people but I would like to change things for when I begin to host again. This is based on the few not-so-good experiences which I have had through couchsurfing.

- I get a LOT of requests, so please, please, please do not write to me something very boring /template text because I probably won't respond. I've received some requests which were addressing people with other names: if you're going to use a template, at least make an effort to address the host with the correct name!

-Also, because I receive plenty of requests it is useful to message me around a week and a half/2 weeks in advance, if not more. Due to the amount of people who I host and the busy life I live, it is ideal for me and in your best interest to request with much advance. Sometimes I receive requests from people who I would love to host, but it is simply too late to plan their stay into my schedule.

-You can call me Mimi. My name is officially Marie-Belle but this name is not used, and I don't know how to change it on CS, so, I will know that you haven't read my profile if you address me as Marie-Belle- then I will ignore your response because you have not read this.

-In the past I have spent some great times with couchsurfers who have stayed here and I have made some wonderful friends who I wish to see again very soon. But if you come with expectations of me bringing you places and being your tourguide as well as escort and room service then you will be very disappointed.

I spend most of my time working as a transcriber and illustrator/designer, teaching and practicing martial arts, studying, travelling, spending time with my boyfriend etc so I do not have the free time to be a babysitter, tour guide or escort. If you have big expectations please do not request, but if you have no expectations and can go and get on with your own thing you will probably get the best reaction from me. But don't be misunderstood in thinking I'm always very very busy. I'm not always too busy to spend time with guests and often have great dinners, drinks, conversations and even attending some events as you may discover from my references.

-The people who I often accept are creative types of people or people who have something specific to attend here and know exactly what they want and need.

The people I least like to host are your typical american couple who just don't want to pay money for a hostel and eat my ears about tourist attractions and how their grandparents were Irish. I'm not denying our immigration to the US all those years ago, but It does get a bit hard to listen to after a while.

- I don't try to convert people to anything, and expect that my guests also refrain from pushing their beliefs on me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have had some really lovely couchsurfers and some not so pleasant surfers also. Have never couchsurfed as I'm preoccupied at the moment and cannot travel.

Music, Movies, and Books

Documentaries or anything with a good message, animations, comedy. Not a fan of horror movies (not because I think they're scary, but most are just a bit cheesy).

Chillout, ambient, triphop, classical, ska, reggae etc etc. Good music really, and maybe a little bit of bad music.

Books with lovely illustrations. Books by authors like Irvine Welsh, Burroughs etc. Prose, poetry (also a fan of spoken word).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Have had lovely travels recently to India, Russia, Poland and also I am very glad to wake up everyday knowing that I don't have to conform to the rat race nine to five game.

Teach, Learn, Share

You can inspire me for my projects if you are so inclined. If you enjoy art and design that is good, because this is what I do most of the time and you are welcome to join in with creative activities such as painting, drawing, cooking, writing poetry and stories. I don't have any instruments but if you have you are welcome to make some music. Anyone with a broad perspective on life is welcome, and anyone who wants their perspective broadened is also welcome.
