About Me

I'm a master's student in University of Helsinki, starting to write my dissertation some time next autumn. I have now studied social sciences for 4 years, focusing mainly on issues concerning developing countries, but also environmental policy and communications. Summer of 2019 will be my last vacation from school, next summer I hope to already be working - so now I want to make the most of it by travelling and meeting cool people!

This spring I have worked as a communications assistant for World Village festival, the biggest NGO event in Finland, bringing together 80 000 people, over 300 NGO's and artists from over 16 countries. Great experience, but I really feel like I need a vacation now.

On my free time I practice Taekwon-do (About 2 years now, just got my green belt and very proud of that!), read books and watch good (and not so good) series.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet people from different backgrounds and hear about their views in life. Maybe then I can also widen my own.

Interests

I started doing Taekwon-do when I was already an "adult" (24-year-old). Before that, I had minimal interest towards any type of sports, but now I'm super eager to get better and train more. It's an inspiring sport and has made some pretty significant changes in my life.

When travelling, I love to hear about history and culture. I especially enjoy finding out why certain things are the way they are today - usually there is something in the history of that place that makes them that way.

Music, Movies, and Books

I was a huge fan of fantasy and sci-fi books as a kid and I really have read all the books of this genre that my small town library had to offer. I've widened my taste in books as I have grown, mostly to other novel genres. I love Elena Ferrante's books on Naples (and I like that city too, even with all its chaotic characteristics), John Irving, Haruki Murakami, Carlos Ruiz Zafón and Margaret Atwood.

Also, my inner child is very strong. I love superhero movies and pokémon...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bungee jump from the highest bungee jumping bridge in the world, Bloukrans Bridge in South-Africa. And now I'm afraid of heights.
