About Me

Hi my name is Samuel.
I was born in Santiago de Chile and lived there until I was 6 years old. Then I went to the south of Chile to a town which lies along one of the most beautiful lakes I've ever seen. The lake is “Lago Ranco” and the town is called Futrono, about 800 km south from Santiago.
Futrono is a small town with no more than 10,000 habitants surrounded by a wild and quiet landscape with a rich flora and fauna, perfect place to camp and enjoy yourself. My father and his family are from there. He met my mom in Santiago, they got married and took the decision to migrate down south.
All my basic education and most of my high school degree I made there. The years I spent there summarize approximately 10 years. All my adolescence.
After my parent’s broke up I went back to Santiago to finish my high school and start my university studies. What a great time! I realized my social skills, met many people. A million new different stimulus: parties, meeting people with great knowledge of the world, meeting people from other countries and living in a rather chaotic city. Hence the desire to start my own journey was partially forged.
At the University I got involved with the community spirit: NGOs that helped both inside and outside Chile. I got to help rebuild much of Chile after the earthquake in February 2010 where many people lost everything they had. Academically I was not an outstanding student but succeed in making several different courses as a teacher assistant of Statistics, Macroeconomics and Basic Economics. Also participated in student centers and any initiative to align itself with my interests.
After six years I finished my bachelor degree and began my professional life. I am currently working in a department store called Ripley. My role is category manager and fashion assistant, with that I get to see the company’s brands and choose the products that are going to be put out for sale. It is quite an entertaining job.
I decided to leave that job after three years to pursue other goals and personal development, beginning a journey which I hope will be the best experience I have ever had.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Basically because I think the best way to see places is directly with the locals. That way I can become friends of them, be part of their life and understand better how to deal in that new environment. There are other options that I do not deny but certainly this seems the best.
I have several friends who have told me about this kind of accommodation and they have recommended it one hundred percent.

Interests

Exploration probably is the best word to define my interests. I am a very curious person, eager to know new places, languages, people and cultures.
Secondly I love learning new things. I am currently dabbling surfing and intend to immerse soon in the world of music, saxophone calls my attention. Ultimately I want to develop my artistic side.
Furthermore chess is something that helps me develop the mind. Reading books is another passion.
Briefly my real interest is to never stop learning.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite kind of music: Electro Jazz, Classic Rock, electronics in general, actually almost everything. Much depends on the context.
Movies: Fight Club, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potters, among others.
Books: Overall everything you create fantastic worlds with various characters. For example: Game of thrones, Harry Potter. Also books that brings me more general culture as the ones relates to: history, economics, philosophy, etc. Another thing is that I love reading books being made into movies to see two perspectives of the same essence.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Out of my comfort zone to explore the world and develop other areas of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teaching my knowledge.
Learning more.
Sharing everything you can.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I lived 10 years in the farm, used to the simple life and things that come from the nature. Thus I know how valuable are your goods and the care that has to be invested to have your own place. For this reason and other personal experiences I consider myself a neat and very adaptable to different environments person.
I can bring kindness, willingness to teach what I know, cook different dishes such as fish, meat, vegetables, salads and a lot of things. I love wine, Chile is famous from its very good wine, I also love beer and whiskey.
