About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Life's too short to be taken seriously.

ABOUT ME

For eight years I have been enjoying Enschede as member of its vibrant student scene. Two years after graduation I still live near the heart of this city and work in a village nearby. I spend my free time mostly meeting friends for dinner or a beer, sporting, and (preparing for) travel.

PHILOSOPHY

I live my life while trying to be happy, which I seem to be most successful at when everyone else around me is. Further, as Baz Luhrmann states it, 'do one thing everyday that scares you'. Wouldn't take it that literally, but I do enjoy trying new things and taking a step out of ordinary every day life regularly.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a small single bedroom appartment, but have one spare matrass which fits just fine in my living room. I have yet to host my first couch surfer, but am very much looking forward to meeting someone new!
Furthermore, I'm preparing for a trip to South America which will take place from april onward, and hope to be able to meet a lot of people there as well through couchsurfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None so far. I have however hitchiked through Germany and France before, and once made a bike trip through Europe with a friend while setting up our tent in backyards people were kind enough to share with us. Couchsurfing very much feels like the next step to take!

Interests

Meeting new people, learning new languages, hiking, biking, parties, different cultures, music, movies.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: generally action, drama, western, sci-fi. Like the Coen brothers and Tarantino. Twelve Monkeys, The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, El Mariachi, Goodfellas, to name a few.
Music: (Indie) Rock, dance. The Black Keys, Band of Horses, Arcade Fire, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Snow Patrol. But Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold. Recently discovered Manu Chao, great stuff!
Books: I read less than I should, but like to read classical non-fiction. Also read Tolkien's LOTR a while ago, really got sucked into the story.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Best thing I ever did was a 3-week bike trip with a friend from Enschede to Rome. The different people you meet, the different cultures and landscapes that pass by as you move on; just the experience of living off the few goods that fitted on our bikes and the generosity of the people we met, it really puts in perspective the possessive extravagance of our everyday lives, and lets you believe in the good of humanity again.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know Dutch, English, some German and some Spanish. Would like to get better at Spanish myself. Furthermore I know stuff about physics and mathematics (see 'Education').
