About Me

Hi! My name is Owen and I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. I'm happily putting that degree to use teaching English in Korea after deciding settling down long term was not an option quite yet.
I come from a pretty big family and love being around people and talking and telling stories. My favorite place to be is at a beach or somewhere warm and preferably surrounded by mountains. Although, from traveling I'm beginning to realize I like almost anywhere I haven't been before. I love constant change and hate my life feeling stagnant.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people and take in all the experiences that I can. Also would love to save some money if I can and prolong my traveling. I think Couchsurfing is the perfect way to dive into a culture and really learn about people and where they live. There's not a much better way to get to know someone than living with them in their home.

Interests

I love being active and outside. Soccer (futbol), beach volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and swimming are some of my favorite things to do . I also recently started taking jiu jitsu classes. I enjoy going out and drinking and dancing. I generally don't enjoy seafood but will sometimes eat it anyway, especially if it's something I've never tried. I play a little bit of ukulele and used to play drums.

Music, Movies, and Books

I do not have a favorite type of music. It mostly depends on the day and the mood I am in. Lately, I have just been playing random "Discover" playlists on Spotify and seeing what happens.
My favorite genre of movie is comedy but, again, it kind of depends on the day. Like the rest of the world, I'm obsessed with Marvel movies lately. My favorite all time movie is Hook with Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman.
I don't do a lot of reading but my favorite books are Enders Game, Bud Not Buddy, The Lord of the Rings Series, The Last Lecture, American Sniper, and Into the Wild.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think the most amazing thing I've done is pack up my life and move to Korea alone. It was a huge change but I love it. Some other cool things I've done are completing the Tough Mudder and night hiking up a volcano to watch the sunrise.
I'm hoping to add a few items to this list after my upcoming backpacking trip.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love teaching people things (which is why I got my education degree) so if I have any skill/knowledge you have interest in I definitely will share. If you are not a fluent English speaker I am more than willing to teach you what I can as far as English language/culture. I can teach you the basics of ukulele also, although I am admittedly a novice.

What I Can Share with Hosts

One personality trait, among many, that I adopted from my dad and grandpa is that I love telling stories and making people laugh. I don't think there is anything better than sitting down and hearing about the experiences of others, preferably over a couple beers

I am not a great cook but I am a useful set of hands in the kitchen and am more than willing to take care of dishes or anything else you need help with.
