Hi I'm Max. Easy going, creative, flexible, a real adventurer and eager to learn. I'm 20 years old and 6,2 feet tall. In september 2014 I left the Netherlands to be a math/Physics teacher in a secondary school in Tanzania. After this unforgetable experience I travelled directly to India. After five months of volunteering I travelled on to Nepal for trekking to Everest base camp and volunteered in a small village in Lamjung(http://www.workaway.info/workawayerprofile.html?w=MaxvanDeursen). I enjoy working with childeren and am often amazed by how clever and enthousiastic they are.

After this one year adventure I am now Studying at the Leiden University College and I am the Dutch youth representative Sustainable Development to the UN. In this function I am the link between the Dutch youth and politics up to UN level, which means I spend a lot of time giving guest lectures and attending youth events as well as going to the big UN conferences on sustainability. My study focuses on global challenges, learning how to look at things from different perspectives and creating a critical analytical way of thinking. Whit a special focus on Sustainability and global public health.

Next to all this official stuf I live close to the beach and have surfboard, I enjoy mountain biking with my little brother and a lot of other fun activities.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The amazing thing about couchsurfing is that it gives you an insight to the way of life at a specific place and that you can get to know a lot of cool people and even become good friends. Next to this I consider it also a more inclusive and sustainable way of exploring the world.
