About Me

Hey there 👋🏽

My name is Zaynab, but you can call me Zay. Or Zaynab, whatever floats your kayak. My last name is not actually Jedi but I keep it private because I’m the only one on the planet with the name (wow I think I’m so special) so it can make me very easy to find so it’s for my safety online.

I was born in Morocco. I grew up in a polygamist, devoutly Muslim home in what was a small village called Ouled Teima. My mom was born in raised in Baltimore, Maryland and met my mom while she was in college and he was over in the states doing stone masonry. She became his second wife and they moved to Morocco where polygamy was still legal. When he died we moved back to states, I was 7. We lived with my mother’s Irish, devoutly catholic family. Not sure why I provided so much detail about my parents but I guess I feel like it shaped me tremendously as a person and forced me to have a very open mind.

Having experienced strong contrasts in culture, religion, and lifestyle- I’ve been left with a very open, and curious, mind. I hope to expand on that in my travels.

I’ve lived in New York City for two years, I lived in Hawaii for two years, and I’m hoping to stay in Australia for the full year of my visa.

I’m feeling a bit lost at the moment. I turned 30 this year and I suppose on this trip I’m really trying to figure out what I want and need out of this life. Australia is a massive and beautiful country with so much diversity and I hope to meet people from all over the world, share stories and dreams with them, and just understand the world and myself a little better through that.

I am a kind, thoughtful, sensitive person who loves listening and asking people questions about their experiences. Maybe you and I will meet and do just that.

Warm wishes to you and yours

Music, Movies, and Books

In general I love all genres of music. Especially rock reggae, pop, moody indie, and classical. Favorite movie is tough but The Lord of the Rings trilogy is high up there. I’m big on documentaries. A few that stick with me are Last Train Home, Roadrunner, and The Family. And anything by Alex Gibney. As far as books go I loved Circe by Madeline Miller, Cutting for Stoke by Aberham Verghese was incredible and gut wrenching, and I’m currently listening to The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison which is absolutely breaking my heart but is so beautifully written.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Skydiving was hands-down the coolest thing I’ve ever done! It was a little scary when I found out upon landing that our first shoot had ripped off and the emergency shoot had been deployed. I was blissfully unaware! Though I was a bit suspicious after it was deployed because ours was white and the others’ were all colorful. The instructor didn’t wanna spook me. It was so much fun I can’t wait to do it again someday

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook. I’m not a picky person and I love exploring new foods and trying different wines. I’ll help with chores and tasks you have around the house. I actually really love cleaning, doing laundry, etc. I usually listen to an audiobook or music and it makes the work really enjoyable. I also love to sing and I play a wee bit of guitar so I love a jam sesh!!
