ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Drew, I’m 25 this year. It’s depression to know I am no longer a teen! It’s my first year being an adult and I guess accompanying it is all the responsibilities ascribe by the cliché phrase ‘with power comes responsibility’. This case, however, is the reverse – ‘with responsibility comes power’. On a more personal note, I love to bake, especially desserts like Soufflés, Crème Burlees, Meringue pies! It’s a passion, which I believe would please my future spouse a lot… hahaahaha, although it would mean that the person would have to exercise almost everyday to burn all those sugary desserts. I learned to play piano when I was twelve but sadly stopped when I entered grade seven which was such a waste. I mean, I could have completed till at least grade eight if it wasn’t for the workload. I like moving objects like the Crookes Radiometer or the Lava Lamp, probably because of its smooth seamless motion, which fascinates me. Recently, I discovered this thing called the Mova Globe which is super ultra cool. It is a spinning globe that moves by solar energy. I LOVE SINGAPORE. It is where I live, where I'm lucky enough to call home. At times, I love the country so much, there is this impulse inside me to roll the car windows down and shout "I LOVE SINGAPORE". It frustrates me that whenever I try and wink at someone, I usually mess it up and end up scaring the person. It wasn’t once that a scared the person. It was on numerous occasions, too many to name, in fact. My lucky number has and will always be 13. It pops up in front of me in the most obvious and undeniable ways - usually when something good is about to happen. My zodiac symbol is Taurus and apparently it means I'm patient, reliable and persistent. I treasure security in the things I do, especially in a relationship. I love bright colours and things that make reality seem more whimsical than it is which is the reason why I don’t get how the Goth culture even flourishes in the 21st century when there is already so much pain and sadness. Aren’t colours the reason we live for? There is this little problem in me – that sometimes, I over-think and over-plan and over-organize things. My parents say it is in my nature - that I've been like this since I was a baby, before I was gigantically tall. These days, I've been trying to classify my thoughts into two categories: "Things I can change," and "Things I can't." It helps sort through stressful times. There I go again, over-planning and over-organizing my over-thinking!
I've apparently been the victim of growing up; which I believe happens to all of us, at one point or another, without even you knowing. Growing up can mean lots of things. For me, it means to become someone different - to change our likes and dislikes; I used to love old buildings with the paint chipping off the walls and my dad's stories about his childhood. I used to love the freedom of being alone. But there are those Likes which remains firmly entrenched, like the belief in naivety, that scepticism was foreign. I would say reading it’s an indispensible hobby which I love, though together with it comes the obsession with gigantuous words like ‘perambulate’, ‘scintillate’, ‘eleemosynary’ and the love of using it on unaware individuals – frass of the society? Music makes my world go round. There is not one moment that my life can be divorce from it. It could be the solemn tunes of Enya or the high-beat tracks of Jennifer Lopez but one thing is for sure, there is always a song for every situation. Being spontaneous is one of my quarks. Things just come to me like a rising tide and when it hits, I find myself unknowing that I am already in the process rather than doing proper deliberations before a decision is made.
I'm pretty stoked that you read the whole lot. I commend you for that. It was ridiculously long, and you probably have other things you could've done in the last three minutes. So to you, who has spent four minutes on me, thank you!
