About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Living the questions and trying to love them.

ABOUT ME

Came to the realisation that the world is my oyster and that youth is fleeting, therefore I need to carpe diem the hell out of this life before time runs out on me :) I decided to create a CS account in the hopes of getting to know the world and her people, and I hope you will embark on this journey with me.

You can read my (now defunct) blog at ofrbjsdy.tumblr.com. For frivolous stuff, you can check out ohfrbjsdy.tumblr.com :)

My instagram handle is ofrbjsdy and my facebook url is https://www.facebook.com/wanyeeee

Update: Currently teaching in a local secondary school. :)

I have come to enjoy trekking and hiking over the last few years. I have done some solo travelling in countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam, Poland, Zanzibar, Moscow, and Sri Lanka, etc. I travelled through Central America in 2018 with my sister, and we survived with the help of many friends who hosted us across five countries. I remain very humbled by the kindness of the people I have met. To some extent, it shows us that maybe altruism exists.

Over the years, I have met so many lovely people as a traveller. I’ve come to appreciate the fleeting nature of such relationships, and the beauty of it. Each person I meet in my travel leaves a deep impression on me - for life - and I am changed for the better, always: more open-minded, more humbled, more inspired. Travelling allows me to break out of the labels that contain me, and allows me to view others differently - breaking out of the labels that i may, inadvertently or not, have contained them. The cultural contexts we are in may have moulded us differently in some ways, but our capacity and desire to connect, to give, to love, to feel are the same.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

May 2014 - None, unfortunately. I have zero references at the moment because I've just created this profile. I hope you'll give me the benefit of the doubt as I slowly build this page up :)

July 2014 - Though my couchsurfing experience is still rather limited, I'm still quite taken aback and amazed by the kindness and the generosity of strangers beyond my little red dot (Singapore).

Music, Movies, and Books

Films: The Graduate, Harold and Maude, Boyhood, almost every single film in Wes Anderson's oeuvre. I’m a sucker for coming of age films.

I love fiction. Some writers who have made an impact on me include Maggie Nelson, Margaret Atwood, Daphne du Maurier, Nicole Krauss, Jeanette Winterson, Jonathan Safran Foer. Some books I’ve read recently that I love are: Americanah, Hot Milk, The American Marriage.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Maybe trekking up Ella's Rocks in Sri Lanka by myself in the rain...? Maybe getting both my open water and advanced open water certification in 5 days...? Maybe summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro after a gruelling 7-day trek?

What I Can Share with Hosts

My smile :D And my thoughts and life experiences as an empowered Singaporean female.
