Overview
About Me
I am an assistant professor at the Institute of Computer Science of University of Wroclaw, Poland. Wroclaw is also the city I was born in, lived through most of my life, and did my whole education, including PhD studies. Afterwards, I did postdocs (usually lasting one year) in Prague, Lugano, Rome, Tel Aviv, and Eindhoven, finally returning to Wroclaw.
During my student days, I used to travel during the long summer holidays, but nowadays I don't travel as much, and most of my trips are work-related.
I enjoy peace and quiet. In particular, I prefer the countryside to the city bustle, especially if it involves a nice landscape.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Excellent question! Why indeed? I have not used it so far..
Interests
I enjoy reading, listening to music, and watching movies and/or TV series. I admit that lately I do mostly the watching, neglecting the other hobbies. In any case, I find it hard to provide favorite genres.
As for the outdoor activities, I love both hiking and biking/cycling. As nowadays some health issues pretty much rule out the former for me, i do mostly biking, preferably in the countryside. So far all my trips were 1-2 days long tops, but as of recently I have as set of panniers, so I hope that this will change soon!

Music, Movies, and Books
It is really hard to pick favorites, but perhaps the following:
Music: King Crimson, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath
Movie: Amadeus
Book: Middlesex (of the ones I read recently), or anything by Milos Kundera.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
If irresponsible qualifies as amazing, then here goes:
- I slept on the top of Mount Tatvan, a beautiful extinguished volcano in Turkey, with no tent or sleeping bag. How I got there is a long story, but let me say that the summer night was much colder than I expected.
- I made a bike trip from Eindhoven to Antwerp and then back on the next day, with no maps or navigation, but with a (very) strict deadline on the return time. Needles to say, even though there was a marked (well in Netherlands, not so well in Belgium) trail, I got lost many times. Finding the way around Antwerp was particularly hard.. Especially so when trying to find the way out onto the trail, with the clock ticking..

I'm teaching at work already, thanks!
