Overview
About Me
I'm a musician based in Montreal. I do transcription, orchestration, arranging and I also teach piano. In my free time, I play synths and do backvocals for and indie pop band and play ukulele for myself. I'm quite active and enjoy hiking, canoeing and climbing. I love reading and languages, cooking and eating, being in nature and connecting with people. I laugh really loudly.I like to tell myself it's endearing.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I travel, I want to meet locals, discover what life is like for someone in the places I visit. Hotels are the same all around the world, the people are the ones I'm actually there to see.
As for hosting, I'd love to meet some travellers who want to discover Montreal.
Me alegro mucho con cada oportunidad de practicar mi español, así que para mí sería un placer brindar mi casa a gente que querría platicar un poco conmigo mientras visitan Montreal :)
Interests
Music's pretty great.
I have found that I am most happy when I am learning something: a language, a new sport, a new instrument, new cooking techniques (this year was fermentation!). I love to eat: tasting new food, learning to cook a delicious dish, and sharing it. My idea of a perfect evening includes a few wonderful people, some good food, some wine or a couple of beers and lively conversation. I am super fascinated by questions of gender and sexuality and how they intersect with politics, power and culture.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music : jazzy stuff, lots of big band (Maria Schneider, Christine Jensen, Darcy James Argue, Chick Corea, Brad Mehldau, Chet Baker, etc.), Classical (anything from Bach to Stravinsky.
Radiohead, musicals, Tower of Power, indie hipster Montreal stuff with cutesie vocals, latin music, you know... I have diverse tastes. I won't write off any style of music. If it's got character, I'll appreciate it
Movies : cinema is one area where I think I have a lot left to discover. I love outside the box animation movies (Up, Wall-e, Brave). I'm a big Lord of the Rings geek. Stanley Kubrick is cool, Tim Burton also.
Books : I don't even know where to start. I read about a book a week so... I have a history as a Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings geek, but maybe that's the nostalgia talking. I like sciency books about any subject (neurology, geology, genetics, ecology, history, biology, sociology, gender, sexuality... like I said, I get really excited about learning). Science fiction is always fun (Ender's Game, Hitchhiker's Guide). I've also read my fair share of novels. Classics of English, French, Canadian and American literature mainly (I like reading in the original language). I've read a few books my Isabel Allende and Gabriel Garcia Marquez to try and brush up on my Spanish. The later is still pretty hard for me.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Written for and directed a 40-piece orchestra! So much fun.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have actual life skills like music (piano, voice, ukulele, improvising, identifying all the themes in the Lord of the Rings soundtrack), cooking and being fluently bilingual. I can learn songs by ear easily, then teach the song.
I have some random skills like knitting and using JavaScript to automate actions in Google Apps. Also I know how to set up a hammock perfectly.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Music (I'll sing you a song if you have a piano or a uke!), packets of powdered poutine sauce, maple syrup, knowledge of trivia and weird shit from reading about random subjects, a good listening ear, and a self-esteem boost from my ridiculously easy to elicit laughter. Also I cook pretty well so if we have time I'll make a meal for you.
