About Me

Let me introduce myself.
My name is Karel Dvoracek and I live in Prelouc near Pardubice in Eastern Bohemia.
I’m a soldier and I work at the Topographical services of the Czech Army. I’m a specialist at the Department of Photogrammetry at the Branch of Territorial Information of the Military Geographical and Hydrometeorological Office in Dobruska.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I chose this site because I don't like common way to spending my holiday, e.g. a packagetour on the other hand I like people especially local and real men who know their country.

Interests

Regularly I attend three choirs in Prelouc but only one of them is municipal and the rest are church. It means that I prefer classical music from Gothic to Modern period, e.g. G. P. da Palestrina, L. van Beethoven or I. Hurnik, etc.
I practise Taichi daily. It’s a martial art of ancient China which cultivates human body and mind. I am interested in traditional Chinese philosophy and religion which is called Taoism. It is a main reason why I am interested in traditional Chinese medicine and practice of martial arts.
My next passion is winter-swimming. I started to go swimming a few years ago as well as I began to search my family heritage. I mean that I sometimes visit national archives, e.g. in Prague or Zamrsk. I look some information about my ancestors up at registers of births, marriages or deaths. It’s very exciting for me.
The next my hobby is cooking, especially I love inland fish, e.g. a Czech carp or a tench. Otherwise I love Czech lager beer but I think that ale is good too. Naturally I like wine when I prefer red wine.
The last of my hobbies are picking mushrooms up and listening birds in our countryside.

Music, Movies, and Books

I prefer classical music, e.g. Fantasia for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra in C minor, Op.80 by L. van Beethowen; Ariadne auf Naxos by J. A. Benda; A Lady and Robbers by I. Hurnik, etc.
On the other side I like local folk music, e.g. Moravian and Bohemian. Naturally for my Celts ancestors I close to Celtic music and for my Romanian ancestors I listen Balkan music too. I don't have to forget to chinese folk music.
From movies I love The Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World; The Man from Earth or Czech movie about Homolka and Tobolka.
My favourite books are stories about Jeeves but I prefer non-fiction literature.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm learning to singing in choirs, recognising voice of birds or a lot of varieties mushrooms and reading the old type of font which is called Kurrent. This is an old form of German-language handwriting based on late medieval cursive writing, also known as Kurrentschrift, Alte Deutsche Schrift ("old German script") and German cursive.
Well, I think that variety is the spice of life.
