About Me

CURRENT MISSION

**OBS: On autumn 2016 I will be making a long long eurotrip. I hope to use a lot of couchsurfing to meet people on the road, to actually explore the places, learn the culture, and get the authentic-on-host's-rotine over the typical-for-turist-sightseeing.**

My life mission is related to my work: Using science of plant-bacteria interactions to improve sustainable farming. While I am at it, I try to be nice and learn what I can in this world of ours and its population. Having a good time is essential for a healthy, meaningfull life, and traveling is likely the best way to have a good time =D

ABOUT ME

I'm easy-going and relaxed, simple and curious. I like to learn, experience changes and review old concepts. I'm also totally into science - being a biologist might be bad for your bank account, but is good for your aproach on life and conversation =D

PHILOSOPHY

I mostly live to learn and teach, see and show, try for the first time or to pratice a thousend times again . All kind of experience is a form of knowledge, and while travelling one greatly enriches himself - and maybe those arround him.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet great people in the places I got to! From my experience, couchsurfers are mostly nice, open people you can easely talk to. The multi-culti gatherings that happen arround couchsurfing are a font of joy to me.

So far I was only hosted once in Groningen, which came to be my town for a year some months later. I went to several couchsurfing meetings and it was allways had great time with other couchsurfers. I don't plan to ever leave this community, BUT:

- Keep in mind that safe traveling is important, specially arround strangers. Alternative/underground is nice and cool, but shady and suspicious is NOT.
- When hosting, keep in mind that you might be the only contact for your guest in the whole region. When traveling, be respectfull and understanding dammit!
- This is not a dating website

Interests

I'm a Phd in genetics, and I'm really into it. I identify myself with several concepts of science, and bring a lot of it to my daily life. I am eager to assist others with the stuff I've learned.

I've been training northen shaolin kung fu for over 10 years. it is more helpfull to my daily life than it seems.

I also really like to travel, cook, drink, play tabletop games and gather with friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

3 bands: Confraria da Costa, Cake, ACDC
3 books: The Magician (Raymond E. feist), Toilers of the Sea (Victor Hugo), A Naturalist's Voyage Round the World: The Voyage of the Beagle (Charles Darwin)
3 Movies: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Star Wars; Clue - the movie

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lock myself the hut out at -12ºC in the middle of nowhere in new year's eve
Win a scientific prize,
Get lost on the jungle,
Cook for 42 people
Get a Phd

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm good on scientific stuff. writing, planing, handling and analysing data. I really like when I'm able to help someone achieving conclusions and making the best out of their work.

Also, the honey pizza thing IS delicious - and it's easy to make!

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you host me I can offer my expertise of years in academia and hard sciences. I'll gladly read and give an opinion on your papers, run tricky statistical analysis (I'm good enought at that), help with figure editing, and discuss your results.

I can cook my secret honey pizza (and other special flavors) to you and your friends. I can cook for up to 40 people if I have some help.

And of course, just talking about life, society, science, or that day I felt from the bike 3 times because it was icy and I was not used to it.
