About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore Europe and form new friendships :D

ABOUT ME

I am a student from Belgrade, Serbia, just turned 23. I was born in Croatia, but then my family moved here and I've been living in Belgrade ever since, but I do like to travel and I've visited many (European) countries. You can check out the list bellow.

I would say that I'm very open-minded and always eager to meet new people and make friends with them.

I am studying computer science at Faculty of Mathematics, so I am a bit of a nerd and geek. I am really into mathematics, computer science, video games and the rest of geeky activities. I like to read about it, watch films and TV shows about it and I could talk about different aspects of artificial intelligence research all night long if you let me! Just please do not think that I'm a boring person, since there's so much more to me than this.

I am a firm believer in human rights and peace building through education, so I have been active in a few youth organizations throughout my studies. One of them in World Youth Wave, an NGO that annually brings together a 200 people from all around Europe for International Student Week in Belgrade. You can find more information about it on our website www.iswib.org. This way I've made A LOT of international friends whom I gladly visit and who come to Belgrade to visit me as well.

When it comes to travelling, I wouldn't describe myself as a typical tourist (I guess that's why I have joined this community), since I always try to meet local people and experience the real way of living in a certain town/country. Travelling makes me feel free.

I am really into long discussions about all kinds of topics over a cup of hot coffee while in a cozy apartment, but on the other hand, I really enjoy partying on a rave in some abandoned factory until 9 am or camping on some mountain without a soul kilometers around. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really am an easygoing person, open for all kinds of experiences :)

I am not afraid of the rain and bad weather and I actually prefer the cold to this burning Belgrade in the summer (when the temperature is usually over 35ºC).

My dream country to live in is Denmark. I've been there a couple of times and I would like to continue my studies there next year.

PHILOSOPHY

It is my belief that it is one's duty to travel and experience the different cultures, people and place in order to remain sane.

Some cheesy travel quotes, which I truly believe in:

- Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.

- The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.

- It is better to travel well than to arrive.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I guess I would like to take full participation in CS community (to host and be hosted). More information about staying with me in Belgrade will be available soon.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I don't have any CS experience so far, but I've just joined this community and would like to explore :D

I do know a lot of people who have experienced CS and had only positive comments.

Interests

Some of my interests include, of course, computer science, programming, video games and anything related to computers in general.

I love to travel, visit different youth and music festival throughout the region and meet new people. Even if someone wants to hang out, I am usually up for it.

I am really into 20th century history, especially World War 2. I have read a lot of books and watched a lot of films about it. I also visited many museums in Berlin, Munich and Nuremberg related to it, I've been to Auschwitz and Birkenau in Poland. I thinks this is one important event we should not forget and still have a lot to learn from.

Nowadays I am trying to improve my Russian (I have been taking lessons for the last academic year) so I would like to make more friends from eastern Europe who speak Russian :)

Oh, yeah, I was never really into cooking, but over the last year I started preparing all kinds of dishes and I think my skills are improving. I guess I will continue with the cooking adventures in future as well, currently I'm exploring some traditional Serbian recipes.

Although I work out a bit, I am really not a sporty person when it comes to group sports like football, basketball etc. I love my bike and I try to use it as much as possible :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Hmmm, I watch a lot of films and TV shows, whenever I have some time, but I also read and own a lot of books.

For the films, check out the following list: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls070461406/

I am too lazy right now to make similar lists for music, books and TV show, but I promise I will update this section in near future.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing Thing Done?

I wanted to write some cliche stuff here, like the fact that I was the best student in my high school (true story by the way), but I would like this to be more interesting.

I would say the most amazing "things" are the most interesting people from all around the world that I got to meet on many international events I've participated in so far.

Teach, Learn, Share

I must say I completely agree with the description below about this field. It's about learning from people and teaching people what you know.

I always try to learn as much as I can from the people I meet, even if it's just a small thing like saying hello in their language (hey, that is important!). That's why I am not a "regular" tourist. At the same time, I am willing to share everything I know and all the skills I have with those who are willing to learn.
