About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Planning for the next Big Adventure - Tromsø, December 2013

ABOUT ME

I'm Lisa. I haven't been particularly active on CS for the last year because my flatmate wasn't keen on sharing our home in that way, and unfortunately my situation hasn't changed yet. Hopefully soon, though. I miss having strangers camped out on the sofa!

So, about me. I'm 23 and have just completed my postgraduate degree in publishing. Looking for a job like so many others. Something will come up, eventually!

I am obsessed with film. When I was younger I was really into horror, but I seem to have mellowed out with the years and have become a fan of animation and pretentiously soft-focus films about feelings and stuff. That said, I can't resist a good (or bad) action film.

Other things other things...

Well, I love to sing. Terribly I might add, but that's all part of the fun. I can be a bit shy at first but if you're in my company for a day or two I ease up and start communicating like a normal human being instead of a nervous squirrel. CouchSurfing is actually helping a lot with my confidence. It's strangely easy to talk to someone from the other side of the world if you have this community in common.

I love loose-leaf tea (typical English), people-watching, cold weather, tacky showtunes... and a million other things. Oh, food, and lots of it! Maybe we can share a meal one day?

That's a little bit about me, but I assure you that there's a lot more.

PHILOSOPHY

You don't have to be good, you just have to be enthusiastic.

(This is how I excuse my singing.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Unfortunately, not much at the moment. Hopefully I'll get a job soon, move into a city that people actually want to visit and get back into hosting. I've got some big travel plans for the future so have no intention of abandoning CS yet!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted my first two couchsurfers in February '09, and surfed in Paris in April '09. I've since hosted a few more people and will definitely be looking to stay with some people during future travels. For me it is not about saving money (though that is good, too!), but about meeting people, learning and sharing things that you might not get on the tourist track.

CS is the perfect opportunity for this. I love learning about different cultures, and can't wait to further explore the world in a way I never expected I'd be able to. I can't wait to get more involved in it!

Interests

Trying to teach myself ukulele, writing, politics and social justice, learning to cook, exploring, really bad singing, theatre aaaand BOOKS.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - pretty eclectic tastes, and love listening to new things. Trip hop, shoegaze, ambient, noise, blues for talking and relaxing. Pop, rock, dubstep, hip hop, motown and soul for dancing! Also showtunes... don't judge me.

Films - Everything. From big budget science-fiction blockbusters to small-budget existential indies, I just love film. Favourite film would probably be Pedro Almodóvar, even though I really hate The Skin I Live In. Bad Movie Night is a must, too!

Books - so many. Show me a nice independent bookshop and I'll show you my empty wallet! Currently trying to expand my personal library with a more diverse array of authors. Suggestions welcome!
