About Me

Edit 2022:
Bought some property in Mexico. Just moved to Portland . Will be working with the Human Services Department in the county for a few months. Rent begins on August 1. Looking for a place to stay before then and get to know the city ❤️

ABOUT ME

I am in constant awe of the universe around me. I have learned to follow the wind wherever it leads...
I AM, here, now. Here, now, I AM.
We push out of the perfect comfort of our Mother's womb and we open our eyes unto this great illusion. We are all that exists, until our mind organizes patterns into something it can contain, understand. That's when many of us fall for the illusion of separation and of self identification with our body.

I am a nomad. A bird. I fly freely.
I have been to about 40 countries. Experienced magic, time travel, and worlds worthy of fairytales.

I was born in the mountains of Colombia.. where I learned to feel and love Mother Earth's embrace.

My parents following the American Dream, brought me and my brother to the states where I spent most of childhood and adolescence.

But I was never able to buy the story we are told about life and society. I knew there was more to life. I began my travels after high school and continued them through my university years (I graduated from Duke University). After I finished school, I made it my lifestyle. Grabbed a backpack, donated all my other things, and free I was (am).

I have lived with indigenous communities far from modern metropolises. I have lived in Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America.

My quest, you see, has always been: Love. Not the romantic kind, exactly (though I do not believe in "kinds")--- but the One True Love. The Love that is within all of us. The One that holds us together, gives us life and brings us peace.

I have come far in this journey, if we want to talk about distances. I have understood that Love isn't "out there" but it is Here and Now. It is a frequency, a state of being, a dimension, a perspective. It is Eden, Salvation, Heaven, Peace, God, Joy, Truth, REALITY.

You see, we are all Gods and Goddesses in a way. Well, we can be. We have the power of thought and word, the power of perception. It is with this power that we create the world around us, the life we choose to live.

I choose to smile and live in love. I choose to let go of fear, hate, possession, and attachment.
When we let all flow, we move into our One Truth.

Others (and possibly myself) could categorize me as a free spirit.

I've officially couch-surfed in Brazil, Portland, Oakland, and Birmingham so far. But I've stayed at people's homes in Vermont, India (Jodhpur and Udaipur), Ghana, Togo, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Los Angeles, Uruguay, New York, Washington State, various places in Florida, and Haiti (all I can remember right now). I have a few years experience backpacking and usually make friends along the way and find my hosts that way (which is why they don't appear on my profile). I definitely prefer to stay with locals than in hotels or even hostels. My method of travel is slow and I tend to find organizations, social movements, and other projects I can get involved in wherever I am (and then end up staying for long periods of time, to truly integrate and understand the local way of life)----no worries, I do not expect such long-term stays with couch-surfers. I usually use the couch surfing community when I'm looking for one to a few nights' stay in-between my longer-term projects or for fun meet-ups around the world.

I'm an adventurer and desire to experience a life of learning, exploration, teaching, sharing, and growth. My approach to life is to be kind to others, form bonds and friendships through giving and sharing. I love meaningful conversations, hearing of others' perspectives and experiences and meditating and re-formulating my understanding of the universe as days go by. I attempt to live in the Here and Now, being conscious of my mind and my energy and letting go and transforming negativity into love and joy (darkness to light).
When you meet me, you'll encounter a very chill woman, open just as much to crazy adventures as to chillin' out all day. I am easy going, but hard-working. I'm firm in my values and passionate about transforming the world away from injustices, fear, and hate and toward harmony, love, and happiness. But don't worry, not intense nor pushy... instead, I'm super adaptable to your own pace of life and will probably enjoy conversing about whatever you're interested in.
I can hike a mountain, smoke a J with strangers under a bridge, go out to dance in a city, spend the day at the library, watch netflix, plant a garden, build a house (ecologically/permaculturally), cook, skydive, hangout at a bar, meditate for days at an ashram, play boardgames, protest on the streets, or participate in a rebellious social-justice act (like Standing Rock)----in other words, I have many sides to me.

My story: I was born in Bogota, Colombia. A place that introduced me to the beauty of Mother Nature very early. The memories I have of its majestic ancient mountains, shimmering rivers, and awe-inspiring biodiversity... the simplicity of a bonfire under the stars and the joy of running up a hill to see the valley below, is what stayed with me after my family moved to the United States (South Florida) during an economic down-turn in Colombia (caused, really, by American new-colonial policies). I experienced poverty as an immigrant in a new country, I grew up moving from place to place (within Florida and Virginia) and ended up attending about 11 different schools (I was always "the new girl"). I grew up feeling like I didn't belong. The Miami life, though fun at times, was not the place for me. I longed for the freedom that nature provides, following my heart without barriers, not being pressured into any form of life by society. I have always been very idealistic and believe it's what has helped me get to all the places I have been, including where I am today. It's drive, a passion, to find what's truly important in life and learn to follow my intuition, following the flow, and finding spiritual satisfaction.
I began my travels during high school (Peru) and once I graduated I left to Germany where I lived with a host family for a year (and travelled several countries in Europe on my own/with new-found friends). I then attended college at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina... where I explored various fields (physics, environmental science, sociology, economics, public policy, political science, anthropology....) and ended up creating my own major: critical studies of development, modernity, and global poverty. I spent more time abroad than on campus, studying and volunteering in India, China, Turkey, Ghana, and various other countries. I took a year off (2013) to live with an indigenous community deep in the mountains of Colombia, 5 hours from the nearest town, learning about their lifestyle, forming life-long bonds (they are now my family), and joining them in their struggles and political movements to retain their rights, keep their way of life and their land, and preserve their ancient wisdom. That year changed my life. I realized there are different ways to live life... other ways to understand the universe, and that there are people fighting to harmonize our chaotic world. I also was introduced to ancient medicines and sacred plants.
I don't care about money; I could be called an anarchist... but I am simply a free soul. I follow my heart. I don't have a job, I travel and find a way to make money along the way when needed. I gave up a traditional lifestyle for one that makes me truly happy. Now I'm traveling and seeing the world! I've recently had powerful spiritual experiences and consider myself on the "path" of enlightenment, though path is a very restrictive word.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I travel a lot and love to meet awesome people along the way!

I am currently traveling and don't have a stable home to take guests in.. but once I get one (I want to have a permaculture farm in South America) I'll be accepting all the guests possible ;)

Interests

I travel. I am interested in Latin American indigenous and traditional community issues. Social movements. Spirituality. Ecological living and construction (permaculture). Healthy eating (vegetarian/vegan/organic/raw/fruitarianism), alternative healing. Yoga. Meditation. Languages. Physics. The universe/space. 420. Alternative/intentional communities/eco villages. Books. Knowledge in general. Dancing. History.
Helping humanity transition to a different type of world and society, more connected to mother nature and to social relations based on love and understanding. Helping all beings find their Truth.

Music, Movies, and Books

Mix of ethnic/traditional and conscious/spiritual music. Rap. Hip-hop.

I LOVE dancing. Salsa, merengue, bachata, ceremonial and peace dances, and to anything else that gets me moving :)

I love reading and exchanging books wherever I go. I like Deepak Chopra, Thoreau, Emerson, Ram Dass, Women Who Run With the Wolves, Siddhartha, Jung, and any physics, spiritual, classical stories or social books I find in libraries I visit.

I don't watch TV, ever. But I sometimes watch netflix (mostly documentaries and sometimes funny movies).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one?

Ask me about it, I have lots of stories to tell. (It could involve living/integrating for one year with an indigenous community 5 hours from the nearest small city up in the Andean mountains.... or building a drum in Ghana... or walking through the deserts of India doing research... or participating in two ayahuasca ceremonies... or traveling the Amazon River from Brazil to Colombia to Peru by boat for over a week... or taking the longest bus route in the world... or eating scorpion... floating in a lagoon outside of Athens... getting lost in the catacombs under Rome... getting lost in a hike to a sacred lagoon and thinking it was my last night on Earth.... or praying in mosques, ancient temples, and magical natural spots)

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to share! I love to cook for those I stay with, help clean and organize, or offer my time and hands for any projects you have going on. I have stories to share. I can teach how to make some handicrafts, how to travel with little money, some cooking, philosophy/anthropology, alternative medicine, permaculture, or the languages I speak. I can also talk about the meaning of life and the universe (ready to teach and learn).

I'd love to learn:
Handcrafts, juggling and street performances, drumming, Hindi, anything to do with plants or permaculture, your own life story, or whatever skills you have !
