I'm an visual artist who work with a wide range of media like drawing, painting, installation and performance. My works revolve around fictitious characters and their stories often inspired by the social and culture context of Vietnam. Beginning with diving into Vietnam’s history and its rich heritage or collecting stories from the daily’s life, I build up detailed biographies of invented characters and the material evidence of their obsessive lives and works. This results in site-specific unsetting environments in domestic dwellings and in art spaces.

The spectators form their own meanings and interpretations of the invented characters by piecing together the clues and content they get through introductions and from the artefacts. I don’t often immediately reveal that my works are contemporary artworks, because I am interested in the fragile boundaries between fiction and reality. The spectators would later refer to their experience as “reading a story in three dimensions”.

Born in 1988 in Hanoi, Vietnam. I got Bachelor of Fine art in Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China in 2011, then I came to The Netherlands for the Master of Fine Art in AKV|St.Joost in ‘s – Hertogenbosch in 2014. Travelling and studying aboard gave me an opportunite to reflect on my own background and the contemporary life in Vietnam within the context of globalization. Vietnam nowadays has a hybrid society and culture, the traditional on the one hand, and the rapid change of globalization and mass media on the other. My work is about how to connect the two in the present and bring it to the future?
