Experimentation in mobile, sustainable living
ABOUT ME
Hot Daniel was a school bus, but then he became a home. He houses a family- Adam (Jack Friday) and Emma, and their cat, Trout; and Adam's sister, Lyss.
We started in North Carolina in 2014, and in the late summer we embarked upon our journey. For the next several months we'll be travelling around America, seeing the country's beauty and meeting people along the way.
In addition to adventure, we are also seeking community and conversation. We are hoping to find like minded individuals to discuss ideas about herbalism and holistic, sustainable lifestyles. We want to know what other people's relationships with the earth and folk traditions look like.
We have a greenhouse on the bus and are ever working towards sustainable self-sufficiency. You can read about our experiences thus far on our blog, hotdanielthebus.tumblr.com
PHILOSOPHY
Lyss:
The Kingfisher, by Mary Oliver
"The kingfisher rises out of the black wave
like a blue flower, in his beak
he carries a silver leaf. I think this is
the prettiest world--so long as you don't mind
a little dying, how could there be a day in your
whole life
that doesn't have its splash of happiness?
There are more fish than there are leaves
on a thousand trees, and anyway the kingfisher
wasn't born to think about it, or anything else.
When the wave snaps shut over his blue head, the
water
remains water--hunger is the only story
he has ever heard in his life that he could
believe.
I don't say he's right. Neither
do I say he's wrong. Religiously he swallows the
silver leaf
with its broken red river, and with a rough and
easy cry
I couldn't rouse out of my thoughtful body
if my life depended on it, he swings back
over the bright sea to do the same thing, to do it
(as I long to do something, anything) perfectly"
Jack Friday: I am that I am but there's always more room.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We live on the bus, and have a complete home, so we currently only need safe places to park the bus while we sleep at night. Parking lots or campgrounds, or the street in front of someone's house are all we really need, though we love company and conversation!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Adam has hosted surfers in his home in North Carolina.
Lyss has travelled through the United States and Europe couchsurfing, and has hosted surfers from all over the world over the last 7 years.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Jack Friday: Before I became Jack Friday back in the quiet days of Adam (just) I lived in Japan. Japan is amazing. And the ice cream there: incredible, Zen. And the Jack Friday experience fairly impressive in its own right, but then I'm not one to boast; I'm two.
