Overview
About Me
I'm a Venezuelan Computer Scientist who grew tired of computers and became a translator/Yoga teacher. Yeah, I know, it's a real stretch, but I assure you it's a good one!
I'm your average Joe: a pretty open minded, laid back, minds-his-own-business kind of guy. I don't eat dairy, but not because of allergies. I just don't like the taste of it. I carry my laptop and my iPad around in case a "translation emergency" (yes, that IS a thing) comes up. I wake up at 6am naturally, but don't be fooled: I still need coffee to get going.
Being from South America means you can dance, right? Not. I have two left feet but I always end up having the time of my life when we go Salsa and Merengue dancing. I do my best not to step on anyone's feet.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm traveling to the U.S. on May to further my education as a Yoga instructor. There is a great opportunity there for me to continue my education in Rocket Yoga, my absolute favorite in terms of yoga "currents".
This training means waking up really early, locking myself up in a ranch with 7 other students and a bunch of teachers to do yoga and talk about yoga for over 12 hours a day. I would be the most invisible guest ever.
Living in Venezuela means restricted access to US Dollars and a set of complications to actually earn money, as I'm sure you've all seen on the news, so I'm looking for frugal/alternative accommodation. Naturally, I ended up here.
Interests
I'm interested in Yoga, languages, reading, listening to music, talking about music, American junk food (we don't get it here, so every time I travel I end up putting up some pounds and loving every second of it).
I also like fashion and sneakers. Not so much wearing them as I like looking at them, because shelling hundreds of dollars for a single pair of shoes would be a disaster in my financial books. My most recent purchases have been white t-shirts with yoga-related graphics and they were $3 each, based on current exchange rates in my country.

Music, Movies, and Books
I can listen to literally ANYTHING. My dad used to love progressive rock and The Beatles, whereas my mom loves Latin music. I'm equally comfortable with Opeth, Adele, Romeo Santos and kirtan music (repetitive, mantra-like, Indian-sounding chanting). My iPod in shuffle mode can either be the best or the worst thing ever to innocent ears.
I like studying Yoga, so naturally I have a bunch of e-books on the subject. I draw inspiration from some of them (Light on Life by BKS Iyengar is great even if you aren't interested in Yoga).
As far as movies go, my dad used to have this motto: "I'm not paying a bunch of money to be scared", so horror movies and stuff that freaks me out aren't really my cup of tea. I'm more of a commercial blockbuster kind of guy.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Does quitting a 6-figure job at a multinational company because it made me miserable count as amazing? It does for me.
Teach, Learn, Share
I teach Yoga. I can sometimes solve computer stuff, too (let's face it, turning things off and back on works 95% of the time anyway).
I also used to teach English, but I'm sure my American hosts won't find this very useful.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can make coffee and breakfast. I can also karaoke like a freaking beast if need be. I'm going to need some test subjects for my yoga thingie, so I can make you feel good about yourself with some awesome yoga poses, philosophy and/or meditation. My English is good, but also rusty. It'll probably take me a couple of days to get the hang of talking like a local; it's been a while since I did that every day.
