About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Find the best light.
ABOUT ME
I grew up in Washington State and I've lived, worked, and studied in France, the U.K. and Greece. I suppose that my childhood in the mountains of the Northwestern U.S. and fifteen years or so of living and traveling abroad are important elements of the person I am today.
PHILOSOPHY
My approach to travel is a reflection of general life philosophy. Follow the 'Golden Rule'. Travel, like life, is not all about comfort, and doesn't even have to be about the destination. Its about the experience and the people you meet along the way. Learn from it, teach by it, and enjoy it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
In addition to playing host I enjoy participating in groups, offering travel advice and sight seeing tips, and going to meetings. If you're going to be in Bury or the Cambridge area on a weekend, don't hesitate to ask what I'm up to. I usually have an extra seat or two in my car for anyone who wants to join in my next excursion.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I usually play the roll of host. All the people I decided to host have shown themselves to be great examples of humanity and I'm looking forward to more enriching CouchSurfing experiences.
Interests
Photography, backpacking, camping, mountain biking, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, and lately spelunking... If I'm outdoors I'm probably enjoying myself.
But of course not just the outdoors. I've always liked the idea of restoring an old home. I love folk music and handmade instruments. Woodworking, painting, sculpting, photography, and even cooking... probably just about anything that allows me to create with my hands what I see in my mind's eye.

Music, Movies, and Books
The latest issues of National Geographic and Outdoor Photographer are probably within arm's reach. I'm getting ready for my test in Modern Greek. Wish me luck.
I've watched BBC's Planet Earth series three times.
I'm a sucker for comic book hero movies. I've enjoyed just about everything directed by Luc Besson.
Current favorite grooves:
Miles Davis, Thievery Corporation, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Audioslave, Led Zeppelin, Noir Desir, R.E.M., Yann Tiersen, Santana, The Black Keys
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Cliff diving into crystal clear glacial water in Mount Rainier National Park. The pyramids at Giza are unbelievable! But neither of these tops watching the spectacle of a Grizzly Bear and a Grey Wolf battling over a kill in the wilds of America's Yellowstone National Park.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm an eager student of the Cretan Diet. I'd be happy to share what I've experienced personally of its benefits for healthy living.
I can organize photography workshops. To see my work check out my profile on Flickr and my blog.
