ABOUT ME
Russell:
I grew up in Seattle, and yes, I drink a ton of coffee. I've also lived all over the US (Seattle, Montana, Los Angeles, New Orleans, DC, back to New Orleans, and Austin) and have worked all kinds of jobs (machanic, construction, wildland firefighter, milk-man, education researcher, law clerk, congressional aid, prosecutor).
Right now I work for the government doing disaster recovery work. I love working with communities to help them recover from natural disasters and traveling all over the country.
Katie:
I'm from Dallas. I've lived in Richmond, New Orleans, and Seattle in the US and spent a year living in Spain and Italy. I married into couchsurfing. I recently graduated from Georgetown and work as an attorney downtown. I love to travel and hear travel stories.
PHILOSOPHY
Russell:
"We shall not cease from exploring, and at the end of our exploration we will return to where we started
And know the place for the first time." -TS Eliot
"If the elevator tries to break you down, go crazy" - Prince
Katie:
"If you don't read the paper you're uninformed; if you do read the paper you're misinformed" - Mark Twain
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We love hosting and paying back some of the great experiences we have surfing around the country.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Russell:
So far, I've stayed with all types of people all around the country. This is my first time living in Texas, so I'm trying to explore as many cities around here as I can and take advantage of the hill country outdoors. We host more than surf these days and like to take in all types of people, but our hosting time is limited by our busy schedule.
Katie:
About equal on surfing and hosting these days, which I like. Only surfed in the US and hosted in DC and Austin. We've been meeting some really great people and having a lot of fun with this.

Music, Movies, and Books
Russell:
Recent Books: Kafka on the Shore or anything by Murakami, Arabian Nights, The Yiddish Policemen's Union, Savage Detectives, Shantaram, Old Man and the Sea, The Devil's Game, The History of Science
Music: Anything from hip hop, to rock, to New Orleans Brass/Jazz
Random: This American Life, American Routes (Radio), Princess Bride, Wonkblog from the Washington Post
Katie:
Most movies I own are classic films, I can probably talk movies better with your grandparents than with you. As to music, I like the blues, the rat pack, and music from the '60s. I'm a fiction addict so I've not taste whatsoever. I'll read anything, though my favorites are typically late 19th early 20th century Enlish.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Russell:
In the Pamir Mountains between Tajikistan, Kyrgystan, and Afghanistan, I slept on the floor of a fish restaurant because all the other houses were full. We ate fresh lake trout and homemade yak butter, it was wonderful!
Katie:
I'm not as exotic as Russ I'm afraid. For me, I went to the World Cup in Germany and never got over it. All those people, so happy, so excited and so friendly. We're planning to go to Brazil for 2014!
What I Can Share with Hosts
We have an extra bed, blankets, and towels. We live right next to Barton Springs, so if the weather is nice you should bring a swimsuit and take advantage.
Also, there is a pretty good chance I will be cooking something, if you want to sample at your own risk.
Countries I’ve Visited
Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, France, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Spain, Turkey
Countries I’ve Lived In
