About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To survive medical school without losing my vision of actually making a difference in the world. And to never own an iPhone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am all over the place at this point in my life, and my home base is still my parents' place on a tiny island off the coast of Maine. We were raised with hospitality as an important value, and our family has opened our home to many friends and acquaintances throughout the years- none yet through Couch Surfing, but we have gotten together to play cards and have tea around our kitchen table with Surfers who have come to stay with our neighbors.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As a traveler I tend to crash at the houses of people whom I've met throughout life, or set up a tent in woods or a field somewhere, so I've never needed to find a host through Couch Surfing. I think one of the main reasons for my lack of CS experience is my lack of computer abilities... pathetic for someone in my generation, I know, but I prefer face to face interactions- and after 2 years I'm still figuring out how this website works!

Interests

Plants of all kinds- especially trees; languages and linguistics, rural medicine (as my career path) and rural life, birdwatching, hiking, kayaking, environmental ethics and conservation, traveling...

Teach, Learn, Share

I could probably teach the average person a lot about lobster- I come from a lobstering community, where my father is a lobsterman, a major form of transportation is the lobster boat, and my first job after graduating college was the sternhand on my father's boat.

I need to learn more about gardening- I've done it many times before, but always under the guidance of others, and with much trial and error. I'll be growing a garden at the house where I'll be moving soon, and I've never started from scratch!
