ABOUT ME

When we started as Couchsurfing hosts in 2008, we were just a newly wed couple. Since that time it has been wonderful to love each other, go on adventures together, and discover what God has in store for our lives. Our family has doubled and we now have two lovely, active daughters.

Justin is a middle school math and science teacher at Mount Royal Elementary/Midde School in Baltimore City. Becky is an amazing stay-at-home mom. For the 2019 - 2020 school year, our family is on an amazing adventure as Justin is on a year-long sabbatical from teaching. We are living in Fuengirola, Spain on the Costa del Sol and enjoying fully immersing ourselves in Spanish life and culture. We look forward to visiting other places in Europe throughout the year.

When in Baltimore, we are both actively involved at City Harbor Church, which is located in a nearby neighborhood called Hampden. We have also been involved in our neighborhood farm, Whitelock Community Farm, Justin serving as the board president for a number of years. We love to be outside and active and enjoy the many activities in nearby Druid Hill Park.

We look forward to the opportunity to share a small piece of the love that God has given us by offering our home, food, and friendship to travelers in need of a place to stay.

PHILOSOPHY

We humbly try to live each day is if it is unto the Lord. This means that we first love God with all of our hearts. In response to His love, we try to love the people around us. We often fall short on both fronts, but we trust in the grace of God to continue His good work in our lives.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have been involved with couch surfing since 2008, and we love to travel and meet new people. We hosted numerous travelers in the first few years after getting married, but haven't hosted too often since having kids.

Interests

We both love the great outdoors! Maryland has a diversity of natural beauty and offers many opportunities for biking, hiking, camping and boating. And while the city is a concrete jungle, we do enjoy going for walks in Druid Hill Park or just outside the city at Gunpowder Falls.

We enjoy traveling and hearing stories about other people's adventures. For our honeymoon, we enjoyed busing around Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Both Justin and Becky have traveled to or lived in other Central American countries. In 2011, we went on an epic, month-long road trip all the way from Maryland to California before having children.

We are into healthy living. We both exercise regularly, primarily by running or biking. We also love to cook new, healthy recipes. The kitchen is one of our favorite places to spend time together.

We both play guitar, although we won't be auditioning for a band anytime soon. We enjoy worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ through songs and praise, and we are on the worship team at our church.

Music, Movies, and Books

Becky convinced Justin to watch a number of "girly" movies in our first year of marriage, Pride and Prejudice and Ann of Green Gables to name a couple. Justin is not afraid to admit that he has enjoyed these movies (and Downton Abby), but also likes to watch an epic such as Lord of the Rings from time to time.

We both enjoy playing guitar and have played in the worship band at our church, though we would both consider ourselves to be pretty mediocre. Still nothing beats having friends over and singing around a campfire.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We enjoyed traveling to Costa Rica on our honeymoon. Becky has spent time in Nicaragua and other parts of Central America. Justin has twice visited the Philippines and recently spent two weeks in Guatemala to prepare for living in Spain. In 2011, we went on a four week road trip out west and spent time at national parks, southern California, and Colorado. The most amazing thing we have done is what we are doing this year. We put our lives on hold and our living in a foreign country...and loving it!

Teach, Learn, Share

We would love to share new recipes with our guests. Becky loves to try new recipes, and we have many favorites. Becky loves to post our favorites on her food blog, www.AKuksKitchen.com. We can offer vegetarian or gluten-free meals if necessary.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As previously mentioned, we love to cook and eat good food. We would love to share some of our favorites from Spain, Iberian cheese and jamon.
