About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Run my own NGO

ABOUT ME

I'm a graduate student at UC Berkeley studying international development work. In 2008 I ran as the Green Party candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, and received more than 10,000 votes (5 percent) on my platform of peace and sustainable energy. My most recent full-time job was as a bicycle salesman.

PHILOSOPHY

Even the most carefully made plans can be dashed at the last second, and what you improvise in their place is often just as good, and sometimes better.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I was in Moldova, I hosted a handful of people at different times, showing them what an Eastern European village is like. Now that I'm in America, I've used CouchSurfing a couple times to find places to stay where I didn't already know people. Now that I have an apartment of my own again, I'm happy to host whoever comes my way.

Interests

Biking everywhere. Playing halfway decent music at a local open mic. Saving the world slowly but surely.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite author: John Steinbeck
Favorite movies: ones by Pixar
Favorite band: Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to 45 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. I've also been to Transnistria (Pridnestrovie), a breakaway dictatorship that almost no other country in the world recognizes.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about film and about Moldova, a country that you probably don't know much about. I can teach you just about anything you want in Romanian, and I can teach you numbers and curse words in Russian. I can probably fix something going wrong with your bike, and if I can't figure it out, I know lots of people who will be able to. I can also teach you how to use your Mac and how to film and edit movies.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Mexico, Romania, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Guatemala, Moldova, United States
