About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy everything

ABOUT ME

27 years old, bearded, tallish, bespectacled.
I'm told I'm friendly, personable and easygoping. I do particularly like to think of myself as easygoping; I aim to be the easiest goper you're likely to find.
On the other hand, it is entirely possible that that was a typo and I meant "easygoing". I guess we'll never know.

I was exposed to the travel bug in Year 10 when on exchange in Bavaria, then caught it properly after high school, when I did a GAP year teaching English in Lublin, Poland for six months then travelling around mostly central and Western Europe for another four.

After a four-year break from travelling for university, I did another eight-and-a-half month trip around Ireland, the UK, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and Eastern Europe.

The next trip was with my then lovely lady Evie, around the US, Mexico and Central America, bringing my total countries visited to approximately three dozen - a number I intend to add to frequently in the coming years.

PHILOSOPHY

No stress, regrets or boredom.
Life's too short to take it or yourself seriously.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Was first introduced to Couchsurfing in my final year of university (2004) when my housemate at the time Danny found out about it and we proceeded to host a number of travellers on our various couches.
Travelling the following year (partly with said housemate at the time Danny) I thoroughly enjoyed surfing a number of European couches, beds and floors.
Once back home, living rather in the middle of nowhere, no hosting opportunities came up, but when I move back to Melbourne in the near future...

Interests

Theatre, music, history, philosophy, language, animals, beer, hackey sack and, obviously, all aspects of travelling.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like almost all types of music, from classical to rock, jazz to metal.
I particularly enjoy mixed-genre bands, such as Diablo Swing Orchestra (operatic swing metal).

I love reading, particularly fantasy, but I'll read pretty much anything you put in front of me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One? I don't know how to pick one, there are so many, of myriad types.

For example, in no particular order:
The sheer wonder of seeing Petra in Jordan - for months afterwards every ancioent site was "wow, cool... but not as god as Petra"; The madness of participating in La Tomatine, Spain's tomato-throwing festival; the surreality of a Les Claypool gig; the kindness of random Poles who leant me their phones, gave me lifts, invited me to get drunk with their fathers-in-law; being sung to by a large fudge-maker in New Orleans; climbing ancient pyramids in Mexico, falling in love with my beautiful Eve...
Not to mention the people I've been so incredibly lucky to study with, work with, live with, act with or simply meet.

Ooh, wait, I've got it, the One Amazing Thing I've got to do: Live.
