About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find the next step!

ABOUT ME

I love the outdoors and relocated to the green mountains of Vermont last year (after 9 years in and around NYC) to get more of it! Currently I split my time between North Bennington, where I work in admissions at a small liberal arts college, and the West Coast, where I find students for said college. It's an idyllic lifestyle that includes lots of traveling and exposure to new places, and some of my old favorites as well! I am a total dreamer, but I'm always pulled by the stability of this full-time, career-oriented job. Getting paid to travel ain't half bad, though.

PHILOSOPHY

I don't let the small things I can't control bother me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm just getting started on CS, but I hope to host, surf, and also get people in my community into CS so that we can organize some meetups of like-minded folks.

Interests

Hiking, backpacking, skiing, kayaking, cycling, rowing - pretty much anything outdoors! Next on my list is winter camping...

Also: architecture, ultralight gear, educational policy and practice, sociology, literature.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm currently reading Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan. What an awesome book! Never thought I'd be so moved by the story of the apple, of all things. Other than that: Unbearable Lightness of Being (Milan Kundera), Globalization and its Discontents (Saskia Sassen), Autobiography of Red (Anne Carson). Music: Iron and Wine, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Dirty Projectors, Rufus Wainwright, Radiohead, jazz, folk, bluegrass, you name it. Movies: just about anything! I also love This American Life and other NPR programming.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've worked with kids/students my whole adult life so far: teaching theater, leading a group of 15-17 year olds on a 40-day, 272-mile thru hike of the Long Trail from Massachusetts to Canada, coaching a rowing team, and helping students get excited about college. That last one is my day job, but every day it's amazing and rewarding.
