About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I'm bringing you your daily dose of weird
ABOUT ME
I like to take risks. I like to solve problems. I like to work on machines. I like to build things. I wear my heart on my sleeve and I'm not afraid to tell you what I think. People are very important to me. And I like to be outside. I like to come up with effective but unconventional ways to do things. I don't want to be a passive observer in the world; I want to be a real participant.
PHILOSOPHY
New experience. That's what I'm all about. Risks. Taking chances. But also, hard work, integrity and honesty, doing things that I can feel good about at the end of the day. I'm young and I'm not going to waste that time. I hear it only happens once.
I will go out of my way to bend over backwards for people I've never met, because I figure it's good karma. I think most people also feel the same way deep down, they're just too scared to act on it sometimes.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I began as a surfer, now I'm a host too. Some of the most interesting people I've ever met have been fellow CouchSurfers!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I traveled across the USA for 6 months back in 2010, couchsurfing much of the way, meeting tons of new, interesting people who knew all the local secrets. I went to Burning Man in 2010 with a CS camp and it was incredible! Now I'm stationary for a bit and want to host some people! My vagabonding van trip would not have been nearly as fun without couchsurfers!
Interests
Long distance running, biking, being outside, swimming, watching people surf (and surfing if I knew how...), working on cars I very much enjoy. Also, beer and other, uhh... intoxicants interest me.

Music, Movies, and Books
John Steinbeck, Radiohead, the Doors, the Kinks, the Beach Boys, Three Amigos, Neil Young, the Beatles, and oh there's plenty more.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I lived in a van for 6 months in 2010 traveling across North America. It was pretty great.
Teach, Learn, Share
My work passion is solar energy. I've worked at a few solar startup companies in the past and now I'm off to get my PhD studying photovoltaics. I think I like this problem because I find the intersection of materials science, chemistry, physics, electronics, and engineering intellectually fascinating, but there's still a clear goal at the end of the day: convert more light into electricity. It's a practical science.
