About Me

I'm easy-going and quiet. However I care about people and try to live by my values, even when that means putting myself in less comfortable situations.

After a conversation with a close friend last year, I have been slowly shifting away from my very individualist mindset towards something more collectivist. It has been an interesting change in perspective.

I like crazy ideas and working on projects. I like learning, but I learn better on my own than at school.

I try to say yes to things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I made an account on Couchsurfing originally to get cheap places to stay on my cycle tour across Canada, but I found it was so much more once I started meeting my amazing hosts! I love staying with people who live in the places I travel, and now that's the reason I use Couchsurfing.

I have a place with space in Kingston now, with a pretty cool housemate called Harry. Hosting Couchsurfers has been just as rewarding as surfing!

Interests

I am a computer programmer professionally, and also spend a lot of my free time programming for fun. I like making tools and experimental visualizations.

Otherwise, I'm probably unicycling (and occasionally bicycling) or baking bread, and sometimes playing music.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like artists called Bela for some reason: Bela Tarr makes fascinating films, Bela Bartok composed interesting music, and Bela Fleck plays very interesting music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cycle-touring. I've done Canada coast-to-coast (sunrise at Cape Spear was wild), and hope to do more!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can help you learn to ride a unicycle. It's great fun. It takes a while, but it's really not harder than riding a bicycle, maybe easier. Just be realistic about how hard it is to actually learn to ride a bicycle.

I know a bit about computers and programming, happy to share any of that knowledge.

Know how to make bread? I want tips and advice! I've been learning from books, and have been getting better, but there is so much to learn... Happy to share what I know.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've been learning to make bread. I can bake you fresh bread!
