ABOUT ME

I live in NE BC, near Hazelton where I farmstead with my partner. We have a 1 acre market garden and sell veggies at the local farmers' markets. I also work in organic agriculture, which takes me around the province.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is that we can create the most change in the world by starting with ourselves and setting an example. If you're not happy how can you expect others to be. Be positive and positive energy will follow you wherever you go, whatever you do.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have met many couchsurfers recently and have friends who are on CS and have surfed my couch but I didn't get around to getting a profile going until now. I am around sporadically but happy to host when I can. Love to meet new people and help them find their way if I can (or maybe it will be the other way around).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had many people surf my couch while in between cities, looking for places to stay or just in town briefly. They've all been wonderful and took good care of my place. I love to cook and share meals and enjoy that part of the experience as well.

兴趣

I like to stay active. Rock climbing and yoga used to be two of my favorite activities. There's nothing like waking up to a panoramic view of the mountains - although hopefully from a warm hut, not stranded somewhere (that's a story for another time). Most of my time now is spent growing vegetables, either for the market or as seed crops (which I sell to a small seed company and to local shops in packets I design myself).

Movies - comedies, foreign films. Off hand... waking life, shawshank redemption, I will have to think of more!
I watch series such as weeds, californication, grey's anatomy, and whatever else I discover when I have the time - I don't have a TV when I'm working or travelling so...
Music - Red hot chili peppers, pearl jam, josh ritter, cat power, feist, regina spektor, sublime, bob marley...
Books - Wendell Berry, Margaret Atwood: oryx and crake (atwood), shogun (Clavell), the alchemist (coelho), a fine balance, shantaram, Micheal Pollan, Dan Barber, Harry Potter...

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I have hiked to the top of many mountains, sometimes in boots, sometimes in crampons, other times with rope. I have worked in the arctic and had many grizzly bear sightings and have trapped small carnivores such as pine marten (although we were actually trying to trap wolverines!). I fly by helicopter into my sites for work monitoring the biodiversity of wetlands in northern Alberta.
And now - most importantly of all - I grow food!
