ABOUT ME

Travel is my passion. I like to venture where few tourists go, and I like to take my time in every place I visit. I usually don't spend too much time checking the popular tourist sights and prefer wandering through the neighbourhoods of a city. If traveling the backcountry, I'll try to take side roads as often as I can and stop at random places or towns, because those are where real everyday life is going on. When I visit a foreign country, I try as much as I can to learn the culture, interact with the locals, learn the language, etc. I'm generally pretty slow and like to spend more time in a place than rush through a bunch of places. What I like above all is going on a road trip without a destination, and sleeping in the car when i'm tired. The feeling of freedom it procures is hard to beat!

I like overland travel. I find it fascinating to see the landscape, the cultures, the people, the languages, etc, changing along the way. Asia is a fascinating place for that. I love crossing borders, sketchy border towns, the feeling of moving between 2 different worlds, obscure land checkpoints stamps in my passport...

Other than that I'm a skyscraper, bridge and other structure enthusiast. I like photography in an amateur way. I like to document every aspect of the places I visit through photography, and I can be pretty annoying to walk with, always looking for the best angle to take a photo! ;) I like geography and maps. I can stare at a map for hours and I spend quite some free time checking places on Google Earth. I think I could draw a pretty good map of the world from memory!

I'm not much of a party animal, but I really enjoy a good beer with good company, without having to dance or shout to be heard!

I like to read crime novels or books about a travel destination i'm visiting at the moment. I listen to pretty mainstream pop/rock music.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Travel right across Indonesia from one end to the other in 5 months without flying... Drive my car to the remotest road in North America... drive a motorbike across the highest motorable pass in India, and coming back during a snowstorm... Experiencing time travel while crossing the land border between Burma and China...

I'm happy to talk and give advice about the places I've visited and talk about pretty much everything. I can also help you practise French if you're already learning it.
