ABOUT ME
Political Science and French major, studying abroad in France. Fascinated by old-timey things (some think I share the pasttimes of old men, but I'm not crotchety, I swear!). Curious. Very literary. Pianist, but not a musician. Enjoy quality conversation, though I tend to be more of the listener.
I can drink a lot of tea.
I'd like a radio show and want to be a mutton judge one day. And I like tweed, very very much.
PHILOSOPHY
1. "Why I came here, I know not; where I shall go it is useless to inquire - in the midst of myriads of the living and the dead worlds, stars, systems, infinity, why should I be anxious about an atom?" :: Lord Byron
2. Get out of the box, damn it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm a CS neophyte, though should you come to Lyon, I'll bring you to the best café in the city.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
CouchSurfed for the first time in the U.K.: London, followed by Oxford, Edinburgh, and then London again. It was a grand, old time, and I've converted.
Interests
Reading. Writing. Musing. Traveling abroad. Playing piano. Ski-jumping (that is, watching, and not participating). Engaging in good conversation. Limp-wristed chuckling. Bunberrying. Dog-walking. Museum-going. Preparing pots of tea. Commiserating over cups of tea. Preparing pots of coffee. Preparing baked goods for others. Holding dinner parties. Pipe-smoking. Promoting civility. Cutting a rug to the early Beatles.
Antiquity. Pax Romana. 1800s Vienna. Austrian Expressionism. A call to charms. Instant Karma! Languages, especially Russian. Wit. "Be-ins." Boho poésie. Sitars. Dachshunds (their legs are so helpless!). Philosophy. Properly executed alliteration. NPR and The Economist.

Music, Movies, and Books
:: To simplify matters...
Supposing I was doomed to an eternity on a desert island, I choose Casablanca; The Royal Tenenbaums; Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers; Pulp Fiction; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
:: Classical music tickles my fancy, especially Liszt, Paganini, and Schubert. On the other side of the spectrum, the Beatles, David Bowie, hippie music, Radiohead, general straight-ahead jazz, Django Reinhardt.
:: In general, if you'd like to talk books, let's talk Dickens, Fitzgerald, Hardy, Waugh, and Wilde.
Teach, Learn, Share
TEACH :: I'm not English, but I do make a mean scone.
:: David Bowie tunes, anyone?
LEARN :: I rather like the idea of foxtrotting, so if someone would be the Fred and teach me to be the Ginger, I'm much obliged.
