About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To expand human perception with interactive media.

ABOUT ME

I am an artist and designer with a passion for travel, learning, and culture. I'm the kind of person that can be gregarious or reserved. I get lost in my work and good conversation. I feel at home in cities and foreign countries. I'm really fortunate that people usually want to be kind to me, and I try to reciprocate to the best of my capability. When it comes to friends, I'm fiercely loyal and calmly optimistic. I've often been told that I'm very different as I get to know people. When I'm meeting people for the first time, I usual assert my intellect and maintain my best behavior. Sometimes people are surprised to later find that I'm actually a very jovial person with a bright personality.

PHILOSOPHY

Net Happiness - I try to operate under the principle of Net Happiness. For instance, I would avoid anything that makes me a little happy but makes someone else slightly more unhappy. And I try to go out of my way to make others feel happy even if it is hard.

I think its very important to facilitate and environment where happiness can thrive. This is a perpetual challenge in life, but without a constance awareness of your personal responsibility to others and yourself there is no room for personal growth.

Vegetarianism - This is slightly harder to explain. I have been a vegetarian since I was a small child. When I was six I decided that if humans have the ability to reduce the suffering of animals and improve the environment then it is my responsibility to act. I was the only vegetarian in my family, but my parents gave me the freedom to pursue this personal philosophy.

*I'm glad we live in a world where people are free to make their own decisions. If you're omnivorous, I'm totally cool with that.*

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm hoping to participate more. In the past, I've mostly traveled with family or for school. I'm learning how to balance my newfound independence with my sometimes overwhelming desire to travel and meet new people.

I'm hoping to host a few people in the near future and be hosted.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only had a few experiences with couch surfing. The best experience by far was couch surfing in China a few years ago. That was the reason I signed up for this site in the first place. Everyone who hosted me and my friends were great. It was also such a cool way to meet people in the cities we were staying.

I am finally finished with university, and have more opportunity to travel so I hope to participate more in the CS community.

Interests

I'm a total dork in the areas of art technology and design. I get along really well with geeks, academics, artist, musicians, and generally free spirited people. I'm always interested in learning new things about culture, customs, activities, language and lifestyle.

I am a digital artist, and I make interactive artworks. I have done some large scale installations and I would love to do this full time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a lot of stuff. Right now I'm reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, both because I liked the movie and its the year of the Dragon. I'm reading Robopocylips which is about the world after a war with robots. Its been a little graphic which makes it hard to get through. I'm reading a few books on technology because I plan to go to grad school in the field in a couple years.

In the past I have really enjoyed William Burroughs, Ann Rand, Slovan Zizek, Henry David Thoreau

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I first had an authentic travel experience when I was 15. I grew up in a family with four kid, and we rarely traveled together. One year my parents took us all to Colorado. The trip was amazing, but I don't have the patients right now to recount all the wonderful details.

Traveling in Ghana was phenomenal as well, but again, patients at the moment in waning.

The other story I would tell, perhaps if was meet, were my extensive travels through China and Taiwan.

I have a couple Euro stories, but not as many as I would like. One day after I learn Spanish hopefully I'll have more.
